HELP - Crispeed & other Single Turbo Guru's - Advice on HKS T51R Kai single turbo !

Guys,

Can you guys please give me some advice on installing an HKS T51R Kai single turbo on a FD. I really like this turbo but I am not sure how well an application it would be on my car.

http://www.suprastore.com/hkst5sinkit.html

What are your experiences with this unit on a FD ?

Also, would I need a larger downpipe for this turbo ..like 4" ?

My car is a daily driver / weekend drag car and will have the following mods in place before attempting a single conversion.

Streetported motor w/ 3 mm seals
Reliability mods for oil & coolant
GReddy 3 row FMIC
Greddy BOV
SX regulator, Cosmo pump & RP Rail
2 x 850 primaries, 2 x 1600 cc secondaries
GReddy FULL open off road exhaust ( 3" dp-4"mp-5" tip)
NO CATS !
Haltech E6K

Please e-mail me directly with some replies as I have until Tuesday morning to close this deal.

There is a Supra in my country that I need to teach a lesson to :-)

Oh ..for those wondering, I don't have to pass emissions in my country ..hence the off road exhaust ! ..lucky me :-)

Thanks a mil,

Re: HELP - Crispeed & other Single Turbo Guru's - Advice on HKS T51R Kai single turbo !

ill say it again after HAVING EXPERIENCE with this turbo on my car....
The car will not be streetable
The car wont be fun to drive in traffic

I suggest this turbo to only drag racers....

as for the installation, its pretty easy and straight forward but you will need a J-spec lower intake manifild (or completely shave yours)...HKS used V-bands all around the turbo kit, a definately trick set-up!

you wont need a longer downpipe the 3 inch v-band is quite suffice

actually the T51 will let you keep the airpump on due to the fact the turbo sits behind and below it

run some anti-lag on you haltech or
add a wet 50 shot to your set-up and it'll be all good

The car is still streetable but it's not fast off the line unless you slip the clutch and get the RPM up there. For the boost pattern.

2k rpm: 0
3k rpm: 5 psi
4k rpm: 9 psi
5k rpm: 13 psi
above 5k: full boost in no time.

I have run 27 psi with the T51R kai turbo. When it's above 5k rpm, it will go to pretty much to any boost you want in less than a sec. My engine is mild street ported so it might spool up the turbo faster than a regular stock port motor. If you want one, go to my website and go to the T51r kai turbo link to see some specs. The price is $4500. List price is $6540 so you save about $2000.

My car is a JSPEC. It's a 1992 Japanese R1 right Hand drive and I am from Trinidad.

I just confirmed to buy the turbo. :-)

I'll post as questions develop.

Thanks all.

Rubbish!!!

I have a HKS T51R SPL BB turbo with an extended street port and it is absolutley fine on the street. I also use it for circuit racing (track days) and again if you actually use your gearbox there is no problem at all.

I hate all this undrivable on the street crap I hear all the time on the RX7 forums (not just this one). These cars arn`t terrible off boost and think of the gas mileage you`ll be getting

Lag is an over rated problem!!!
