Good size turbo for stock port S5 motor?

Hi, i have an opportunity to buy a rebuilt turbo fairly cheap. I would run it on an HKS cast manifold.

Garett T04E
.70 Compressor
1.0 Turbine
Divided
Dry center
The guy said that it is equivalent to a P trim wheel but the letter trims are only turbonetics stuff. Should i take the housings off and measure the wheels? This turbo came off a truck.

Would i be able to make ~400rwhp on this turbo?

Or should i just go with a new T04S, how big would the power difference be?

From what my mate at Garrett tells me, the T04E is capable of about 400hp at the flywheel with about 16psi. If you boosted the turbo to 20-25psi and did some porting you mioght achieve it at the wheels.

I'm aiming for about 350hp at the fly, but that's plenty for a street Gen 1 weighing about 1000kg or 2200lbs. I've got a GT3540 with a 0.7 comp and a 1.05 turbine with a ball bearing centre.

im running a 1.15 ptrim and a 60-1 to4b on my stock port s5 motor.

this is a little big for a stock port but I plan to streetport some time in the future. it is also recommended on hitmans site.

You can get 400rwhp but as mentioned above you have to boost hard which is not reccomended for a street use car. I would go with something bigger if you weant to archieve that power. A GT 35/40 would do the job.

thanks for the responses. I was afraid a t04e might be a bit small... just asking because i can get a good deal on it. I might as well go big from the start because i know it wont be enough

82streetracer, is that t04E smaller then your t04B? I always thought that t04e turbos were bigger then t04B because isnt a t04b compressor supposed to fit on a stock FC exhaust manifold while a t04e will hit?

are you talking overall size or size/power ability

they're not much different.

In fact, were running the same compressor side, with a different exhaust side.

there might be some differences in the bearings but I wouldnt know.

as far as power is concerned, mine would probably make a bit more with the larger exhaust, but yours would spool a bit faster.

I'm not shure which one has a bigger Turbine housing/Turbine impeller combination. For a given turbine wheel size, having a larger housing means more power, lsee efficiency and slower spool-up. A tighter fit (smaller turbine wheel) means better efficiency and spool up, but less power.

So I assume the difference between the T04E and B would be the size of the turbine wheel, hence giving rise to the difference in housing sizes.

I think the bearings on both T04's are the same.

Jahoo88, how much would you pay for the T04E??

I would pay $950 CDN taxes in for a fresh rebuild with warranty. Is it a good price?

Have used stock GT42 Garret turbo's on S4/5 engines .
S5 engine with FMIC and GT42 with 1.22 AR exhaust make 340 hp at wheels .Using 97 octane pump fuel ,
.9 bar boost at 6800rpm.This was with a stock S5.
S4 engine made 329hp, 1 bar at 7200rpm.
We rev our engines to 8500 in stock form.
Static fuel pressures of 3.5 bar.

Where did the GT42 make 1 bar of boost on these stock motors?

Jahoo, that sounds like the infamous "ford 8.8 litre" truck turbo, I have one, but with 1.15 a/r turbine, on a really loose stock port series 4, I nearly hit 400 rwhp with it, and that was not even really high boost, somewhere between 12-14 psi..... With my s5 streetport, I can spool that turbo like the stock turbo, it makes pretty wicked power, it drops boost at hight boost levels though, it could not maintain 19 psi past 5000 rpm..Max
