I'm excited to see what people come up with to be honest! As I've preached before, 2+ gallons is a TON of juice and will be more than adequate for 99% of the guys out there. However, there's always room for improvement - especially for race cars.

I go through a windshield washer tank (almost a gal?) in a single track session. The long profile of the euro-spec tank is ok for driving around town, but when you are taking multiple hard g-load left hand sweepers, there's concern (at least on my part) that a pickup on the driver side will go dry at the end of a session, even with the 2 gal capacity.

If the tank will be manufactured in two parts and connected together, then I would think a baffle could be devised. If it is one single part, that's probably more difficult (if not unfeasible).

I also vote for a translucent tank to easily see the level.

Just curious, is the final production material going to be as brittle?

Tank will be one piece. That's locked in.
Tank will be translucent. That's locked in.

The capacity should exceed 2 gallons (I'm a little hesitant about saying an exact number because I'm basing this off CAD/3D printed models - but it could very well hit 2.5G). Not including whatever the primed lines and pump hold.

As for slosh, I get it. I totally do... and you're right, hard left handers are going to be the situation where potential starvation will occur. BUT, the washer tank you currently use (I assume) is under 1 gallon capacity. You say you go through this in one session, so you run completely dry? I would guess you're blowing through 3/4 of a gallon like Smokey. That's less than half of our capacity. Even 1/2 empty - I really don't think you're going to encounter the starvation you're thinking.

That said, I like your earlier idea of baffling the unit. I am all for seeing where people take this project!

No. Not even close.

The 3D print was essentially acrylic. Ductile and brittle.

The final production will be HDPE - which is essentially polyethylene. Think an iconic Gatorade water bottle a hockey goalie uses - thick and flexible.

Exciting news guys!

We gave the factory the green light to move into producing the molds which will be used to produce the final parts. FD3S Rear "Euro" Washer/Fluid Tank-qh9cjuh.png
FD3S Rear "Euro" Washer/Fluid Tank-ga3p262.png

We're ~60 days out or so on having the first production units in hand!!!

We'll release pricing and start taking deposits next week - so start shaking those piggy banks.

We also have some other cool plans brewing. So get excited for that!

Is the lower OEM mount (circled) going to be retained? This is the best low spot on the tank and perfect placement for a pickup since there's a cutout in the body right underneath

The positioning pin has been flattened - so you can definitely tap it for a nozzle.

Ok... so quick informative post. So I was able to mend the acrylite prototype using a mix of gorilla glue and flex seal to get some baseline measurements.

1 Gallon = 128fl/oz

The stock washer under the hood (tank only, not neck/pump) holds 68fl/oz. That's a tad over 1/2 gallon.

  • The prototype tank holds 226fl/oz. Just shy of 2 gallons.
  • The "right" side of the tank (green/red) holds 104fl/oz.
  • The lower sump (red) holds 24fl/oz. This would be what's remaining once the fluid sensor goes off.

Now, all these numbers are a bit lower than the production unit will be because of the thickness of the tank walls. The prototype had to be made thicker, however, the actual production piece will be thinner (read my previous post on how the prototype is brittle, but the production piece will be flexible).

Additionally, I had a slight "eureka" moment last week. We're going to be able to incorporate a baffle into the tank. It won't be a full divider - but it should be enough to do what we need it to do.

So I green lit production last week - then sent an e-mail at 1am saying "wait wait!". Basically, I'm going to add a "ridge" to the inside of the sump that will run the entire width (front to back). It's basically the same way AEM solves for this question:

Still playing with it a bit (positioning, height, etc) but expect this design element in the final production. At the end of the day, we just want to put out the best product we can - your feedback has been incredibly helpful.

More news to come!

If you connect those two with two small channels it would work, as it is now, the content in one fo them will never be usable

The only goal of the baffle is to keep more fluid near the nozzle under hard cornering. If you are running the tank to the point where the only remaining fluid is unusable, A) The fill sensor would be and have been lit for quite some time and B) You would have had to burn through 2 gallons without refilling.

All that said, I'm considering making the ridge a bit higher and closer to the nozzles in order to create even more of a "sump".

Does that make sense?

looks like you flattened more than just the positioning pin. Will there be a built up area in that location for a pick up?
