Without a vent, the top baffle will limit how much the tank can fill as the air will be trapped.

May just be simplest to stick with the max volume original design or the gradual slope.

I actually really appreciate it. Before we went all in on the CFD testing I was asking my physicist father-in-law for the equation to calculate Gs by angle - and then he told me to just go the CFD route. :P

With the CFD, we're able to model lateral Gs, acceleration, specific fluid density, and of course time. Altitude changes and other variables are possible as well - but we're not gonna take it that far.

I'm liking the slope. I always subscribed to the belief that a elegant looking part is usually a better functioning part at the end of the day.

That said, we're not dealing with subjectivity - whatever the data tells us is what we go with.

We actually have two other designs we're wrapping up modeling and we'll test those as well.

Agree regarding the needed vent. If it's not possible to mold in an air passage maybe a connector hose could be installed between the two sides afterwards although this would require more work.

I think, that if you need a watertight (harr harr) system that can handle several G's, then you have to make your own surge tank or something. There is space for it, and it let the big tank work as a reservoir.

Making this tank work properly for that application would require it to be made in two parts then joined together, as anything else is just going to limit the volume, without much gain.

If a vent is needed - we'll add a vent. No additional work really. Just model it in CAD.

Vents and vent tubes can easily be added to the top of the tank and fill neck. I wouldn't delay production due to the lack of proper venting. Once you have a couple near production tanks, install some vents and tubes to the top of the tank, do a few quick tests, and you're done IMO.

Thanks. I appreciate it. I know everyone is coming from a good place - and I truly DO appreciate all the enthusiasm.

So our original design was probably 90% there. However, people on this thread (and via PM, and via e-mail) raised reasonable concerns over slosh under harsh racing conditions. Although we never intended this to be a real "race" product - and we have no interest in producing a "different" version of the tank - I thought it was best to try and at least incorporate some design changes that would appease the "weekend warriors". Will it now be a real "race" product? No. It'll still be a tank for a street car - but our changes should benefit everyone, including those that track their cars.

We aren't "done" - but we are close. We still need to add a couple vents and move the nozzle bosses from the front of the tank to more well thought out locations (thanks for input on these). We'll also launch details of the official group buy and the continuing support / life cycle of the product very soon.

But to keep you guys excited, here's the latest iteration (ironically enough, it's design "007"):
