Accidentally submitted the last post before I was done...

Mounting grommets with OEM hardware.

Little A / B comparison

The only change I'm forseeing is that we will probably get rid of the little guide pin on the bottom of the tank.

That will probably be gone once we hit production.

Otherwise, we have prototype 2 a week or so out. If that goes as smoothly as this - we'll give the green light on production. From there, we setup the official Group Buy and start talking numbers, taking deposits, etc.

Exciting stuff guys!

This is awesome! I should still be able to keep the stock windshield pump with this right? Just drill out the hole and find some way to mount the pump to the tank.

If you're running a USDM car with a front pump ONLY - you're a-ok. If you have a touring with a rear tank - you will have to relocate it - but there's LOTS of options for that because it's so small. The other question to ask yourself is: when is the last time I used the rear sprayer?

As for meth/auxiliary injection - you mount the pump (again, LOTS of options) and drill out the tank bosses for nozzle(s) and level sensor. The bosses are made extra thick so you can run a tap as well.

Touring, I think I've hit it once accidentally lol but since the rear window nozzle is there I might as well make it work. Relocating it might be the answer and just connect it with some tubing so it uses the same fill spot.

When you have some time - go pull off that rear panel and realize how small that tank you have back there is. After you lay eyes on it, you'll realize it can go ANYWHERE.

Any easy areas to add more capacity? More water capacity the better!

Nothing jumped out at us. There's about a finger gap between the front of the tank and interior panel. I thought we might be able to exploit that a bit more, but I think I value OEM fit and finish more than a couple more ounces.

We'll get more solid numbers on true capacity next week with out next prototype.

Thanks! I mean, it *should* because the CAD file was generated from a 3D print... but you never know!

Any provisions being made for a low level switch? I'm guessing most people would want to know when the tank was almost empty to switch maps etc.

Now, the absolute irony of this project would be that the new rear tank causes a shortage of the front washer tank!
Thanks for the input both of you! I realize that since i dont have any tank in the front, there probably aint any wires going there, and since there aint any wires there, there wont be that easy to retrofit the US tank there. Since i would have to wire up the pump to the washers and such. I guess ill try and fabricate something that can go in the rear somewhere. Good thing i mostly drive it when its good weather so i probably can get away with a super small tank!

The front space could be used for something else, maybe 2-stroke oil for the OMP?

Yep. Since we want to keep this "agnostic" as far as kit goes, we didn't want to have a per-threadded hole - because that might pigeon you into one sensor or another. So what we did was put thick bosses that you could drill/tap for whatever sensor you choose to run (conductive, float, etc).

We also placed it level with the "other" side of the tank, and above the nozzles - so once that light comes on - you know to have basically the sump left.

Yeah. As I mentioned to someone else, the US rear washer tank is SMALL and would be easy to relocate. That said, the wiring might be more simple than you think... but again, it IS a lot of effort for a unit that;s used sparingly.

OMP tank you say...? Interesting.

Let's get through this one first.

Wow Matt. Sick job so far, and so much easier than when I designed mine. I almost feel like you're cheating . Certainly has the potential to be one of the biggest group buys of all time, and something the community has certainly needed. Thanks for the hard work to make this reality. Now I just need to decide if I want one for myself

Thanks for the kind words! I'll agree that 3D scanning, CAD and 3D printing is definitely the express route to getting stuff like this done. I mean, we're aiming to produce a part that will rival an OEM piece and we're just a small group of enthusiasts.

If I'm being completely honest, your tank was inspiration for this project - so even you had some (unknowing) input into it!

Wow, thanks for the compliment. It was funny when you posted up that the Euro tank holds 1.8 gals, which is exactly what I measured with my final tank design. I can top mine off and it will last a 5 hour drive (with periodic boosting between Phx and LA). Should be more than enough for a 15 minute track session (depending on nozzles used). If possible, baffling would be helpful to keep the "slosh" sounds down. Have you dealt with how that will be addressed?

Great job Matt. Can't wait to see the final outcome!

So I touched on the internal baffling back on Page 2 - but I have no problem doing a little cut n paste...

We wanted to do internal baffles - but our manufacturing process wouldn't allow for it. However, the "sumped" design and the low placement of the primary nozzle should help with slosh a lot. If you notice, the nozzle sits in the lowest possible position while the sensor sits level with the the "other" side of the tank. It would take a pretty empty tank and a lot of Gs to move the fluid out of that sump. Your level sensor would also be throwing an alert by that time as well.

That said, the other idea we had for people that would be in those extreme situations was to use the secondary nozzles with extension hoses (internally) to effectively place "pick ups" in other areas of the tank. Meaning, if the tank is running low and you're in an extreme G situation, the pick ups would grab what's available.

Matt, ok with deleting the guide pin, but do you plan to keep the built up portion just above the pin? This would be a perfect place for a pick up (nozzle?). There a hole in the chassis just below it. It's also lower than any of the vertical built up areas you have.

We can do whatever we want!

But yeah. We're on the same page.

Lookin good Matt! We support ya .

Keep the list going guys, this is one awesome project that many of us (myself included) have been wanting to see happen for a long time If you're not tuned for E85, water/meth injection is a MUST HAVE for the rotary.

....MUST HAVE for a turbo rotary making, say, 350ish rwhp and above, agreed. Lower powered/stockish 13B-REWs don't 'NEED' it, but it isn't a bad idea

Gotta keep ya honest, my Ginger Zach Galafianakis buddy

Thanks so much. It means the world to me.

I also agree from a technical point. The rotary benefits even MORE from water/meth injection than other motors. Keeping internals clean and carbon free is a HUGE upside unsung for water/meth - not to mention reduced detonation.

I'm with ya. But even a lowered/stockish car benefits from the carbon cleaning effects of water/meth.

So, with the two low point, are you building in a float on each side so Air won't get drawn in? Just trying to figure out the best way to utilize the full volume of the tank. Or am I seeing this wrong?
