Saturdays In Raleigh, Nc
I signed up for one at the rally. I'll send you a check if you know that is the final price. Keep up the great work you are doing for the club.

Last call for GRR T shirts. Anyone who attended the Grand Rotary Rally, 2004, decided they want to add their name to the Tshirt order. We're looking into long and short sleeve shirts with the GRR Logo on the back and a smaller version on the front left chest. Going with Ash gray or white and may look into doing black shirts. What do ya'll think? Any preferences? I from the ticket sales for food at the GRR it looks like we should have about $4.50 to apply toward the shirts and that means about $7 - $8 per shirt to pay for them when we pick'em up. Hope to have them in February or early March at the latest. If someone didn't order one and has decided this was such a memorable event that they got to get the shirt then now is the time to add yourself to the list.

i like the idea of black. you know, just incase one of the FD's break down at the meet we can help work on it without a major stain like oil or something... haha
MY 86 is driving!!!! ahh, its great, cant wait to open it up and hear it sing... 747 miles to go before i can even push it over 3 or so. haha.

Just a thought for the guys going to VIR on Friday. Any chance one of you can take pictures and/or be able to do video footage on/off the track for the rest of us who can't make it?

I read it. maybe I'm just old fashioned but I'll stick with what I have always done. Slow break in and it works for me.

Come one, come all to Holiday Laps at VIR.

What happened to breaking with tradition in this group? No one brave enough to try something different?

I like the "break it in like you intend to use it" ideal. I guess I expect a lot out of my cars and by and large, they deliver when asked (when maintained). Reminds me of the story about a guy that picked up his Porsche and asked the mechanics about the break-in. They just laughed: "Drive it now like you are going to drive it after break-in." (IIRC, though, Porsche does break-in on a dynamometer before handing it over to the customer). That's still worth a big grin, hearing your mechanic to tell you go enjoy it (you have to wonder if it is self-serving and the motor is going to go poof prematurely and keep Klaus rolling dough).

With a rotary, as long as the bearings are already used, "give it hell" is what I have heard, with the exception of NO drag race launches. Same goes for avoiding boost. Run what you intend to. If you don't ring them out, things don't want to seal up...hence why when I hear "never raced or autocrosses and driven on Sundays" referring to a Rotary I think: "carboned up, needs rebuild".
That rev buzzer is a shift reminder indicator, doesn't hurt to hear it chirp every once in a while (<grin> I really should quit tapping fuel cut on the Miata, but most of the Spec Racers do it without killing motors left and right).

Breaking with tradition is fine, breaking a new rotary engine though is a little more disconcerting and whole lot more expensive. Besides traditions heal themselves or evolve with practice, rotary engines are the highest evolutionary rung of the internal combustion engine ladder and will not heal themselves without a lot money and labor. :0)
I have good news and bad news(at least for me, others may not care
)
Good news is I just got a promotion at work, which means more $$$ for the FD.
The bad news is, it looks like my company is taking me out of town this week. I won't be able to make it up to the Holiday Laps at VIR. Actually it looks like I will be here and there for the rest of December. I was really looking forward to getting out there and familiarizing myself with the course, so when I came back for a full race weekend I wouldn't look like the newbie that I am, and would have at least some idea what the track feels like.
Good luck to everyone going and I look forward to seeing everyone this Saturday.

A promotion, What is a promotion? Anyway I hope it is something good, more money is always good, especially for an FD and Fiero owner. I am sorry you're gonna miss the VIR experience but that is the way of the world, they give you more money but they always want more of you. Word of advice, don't try and date the new bosses little girls just give him a ride in your FD when you get it rebuilt and moded.
We'll struggle along without you this coming Friday.

Are you looking at the March or June even? I'll plan to be at one of those. My sons and I are planning a spring trip to the mountains for a run at "Tail of the Dragon. Wanna come?

If anyone is going from Raleigh we're gonna meet at the Super Walmart off Hwy 70 west of raleigh across from Briar Creek. Whoever shows up will be heading out to Bahama and up to Roxboro about 10:30 AM on Friday. All you big dogs are welcome to join us.

If my FD isn't up by then I am going to shoot myself.
It would be cool if we could get a good group to actually go up to VIR.
Lee, when about are you planning to do the tail of the dragon? i was going to suggest that the RRDI group went and did that. it sounds awesome.
Johny, how's the car coming along?

In keeping with the concept of Spec Miata - i.e. keeping costs down - the rev limiter takes the place of a tachometer or shift light in the Miata.
