I'll bring them to July 8 OGTA if you are going to be there. How about $10 for the fan clutch and $30 for the shaft?

Anybody else need to do some parts swapping? I know Tim will be selling a whole car. I was going to sell the Jeep but now Cathy won't let me.

Ray, that's a deal for the fan clutch and drive shaft (does the drive shaft fit inside an FB?).
Ray, any good ignitors?

He is the quote from my son when I sent him pics of your jeep:
"If my jeep looked like that I'd be ashamed!"

The driveshaft is from an 84 GSL, as is the fan and clutch.

Yeah I don't understand Jeep people at all, seems like they hate machines the way the get them all muddy and do horrible destructive things like driving over boulders.

The good news is it's my Jeep and I can make it look as pretty as I want. But maybe you can get your son to bring his jeep on the 8th and we can compare, let others decide?

Ray, as much as I hate messing with electronic components, I was thinking about the 2nd gen, direct fire leading ignition (or whatever it is called) conversion.
Don't you have it? If so, do you like it/worth it?
How hard is it to do and what components do I need to buy?
Thanks for the help.
My wife has instructed me not to do anything to encourage Ryan's off-road yearnings.

Well OK, if you're talking 2GDFI, you've come to the right place. Pioneered by Mike Simonovich back in the early part of the century, the 2GDFI has become standard equipment for any serious FB owner.

It's quick, easy and works on the first crank of the key. Mike, Greg the Elder and I all have it, it's a right of passage for any serious OGTA member. If you can find a unit before the July 8 meeting, bring it along and we can install it in Jefferies parking lot. I got lots of replies just by placing a Want To Buy post in the second gen section, a good one should cost $20-$25 shipped.

I do have some ignitors but I'm down to my last half dozen or so and I'm trying to hold on to them after replacing two or three myself over the last year. But maybe Mike or Crit can spare one or two?

If Ryan sees the Red Jeep, he will understand the virtues of taking good care of your stuff and NOT TAKING IT OFF-ROAD!

This is what happens when you go off road, especially if you are 16-18 years old:

Man, I am not taking any more vacations... I go away for a week and the thread turns into a sitcom with Ray posting pictures of Jeeps.

Looks like we are on for 7/8. Billy, if you're going to be there I can pick up and pay you for the radiator pillar. Thanks for the reminder on Zoom Fest. I'll get registered. Anyone talking about camping out?

I am.

I'm talking about it, that is. I don't have a tent, but it would be TONS of fun up there, I think. Anyone else up for camping?

Yeah the boinger's only saving grace is the mid 40's gas mileage lol.

However i lucked out hard today though. My friend who imports parts from japan got in some used coilovers, so i picked them up for dirt cheap. I'm happy about this since now all I really need is to finish the 5 lug conversion, put my intakes and exhaust on, and get tires to make it road worthy.
Life is good.

I'lll be at Mazfest, and I'm down for camping. I've got a tent, but it only fits me. My house is also 6 miles away, so I might hear the bed calling. That depends on the weather. Either way, it should be a good time.

I've attached some pics of 1st gens at Le Mans in the early 80's, as a means of increasing our rotary content.

I am camping out for sure. Rain or shain. I love it! Hopefully we'll have a good NC contingent showing up. If not i will just ***** myself out to the Ga crew(s)

I finally got 20 minutes at work to change my u-joints on the fb Throwing it back in tomorrow and driving it to see if the epileptic shakes are gone. Maybe I will hire a driver to take the FB down as well for Zoom Fest. Picking up some tasty treats for the FB this weekend. I'll post pics and details late Sunday or monday sometime.

Still lurking and making sure this thread doesn't surpass ours Those are great pics. Have any more of rotaries in lemans or other road race series?

How's that GS-SE coming along? If you need anything, feel free to ask. I had a hell of a time getting mine running right and accumulated a lot of SE-specific spares as backups in the meantime.

By the way, does anyone with a long trailer want to go to Colorado? There's a turbo motor with a badass TB and 8 injectors, lots of 12A cores, 13B cores, RX-808 roller and RX-4 driver that all need a home.

HERE's the post

My wife would never give me permission, so one of you's gonna have to step up and do it. I'll help load and drive the RX-4 back.

Mike speaking of Old School Stuff, Billy has our heat deflectors ready. Only $40 each shipped to Jefferies on July 8th for the 7:00 pm delivery.

You can see them at the OldSpeed website.

I'm getting two for the girls. Surely the Gray One deserves one too?

Hope Jeffery's doesn't start charging commissions for parking lot deals.

Gotta go paint on the jeep.

How about a standard car trailer? All i have to do is check and make sure the whole bottom is solid. Some ratchet straps etc etc.......

Ahhh ****. I don't have enough money for gas. Damn being 20 years old and try to build a stupid race car.

HAha!! Being 20 is the least of the issues with building a race car. I am 31 and have been "trying" to build my FD "Race Car" for the last 7 years. And I just finally squeked tires out of my **** for the thing Give it time and be persistent. It will take time but you can get there. That is what i tell myself I now am focusing my attention on building the FB up for next years 24 of lemons race that comes to CMP in Kershaw SC. If yours is not up and going by then I will need to aquire a few drivers 3-4 to partake with me. Intrested?

The rules are the car must cost less than or = to 500 purchase and investment. ( no limit on safety costs, tires suspension, brakes etc..) And I got this gem for 500 on the head and drove it home

The 24 hours of lemons looks fun. We looked at doing it, but it ended up being too pricey for us when all was said and done. It's not the car costs, it's the entry fees and safety gear. Good luck though. Should be a lot of fun.

Ok, now I'm gonna do something wrong and ask for some boinger help . What causes battery connections to rapidly get that nasty build up. By rapidly, we're talking 2 days. I'll clean the connectors, put it together, truck fires right up. Go the next morning or the day after to start it, no power. Reclean the connectors, good to go again. Battery has an October '01 sticker on it. Maybe I should just get another one.

Yeah i keep telling myself to take my time with it lol.

I am very familiar with the 24 hours lemons. I've talked about doing it before but not enough $$. I would Totally be down to drive in it.

Off hand i think it was 500 to enter each car. And then 100 each driver. plus other odds and ends i can't remember. Obviously all the gas, tires , brakes etc.. to last the 24,..hopefully. We'll keep in touch on it and i'll probably need a kick in the ***** every now and then. I am all over that race next year. Plan on driving with me,...Damn, I guess ijust set a deadline for myself,.. uh oh!
Good luck on your car. PM some pics if you don't mind And I will do the same. I just picked it up a month or so ago.

Tim, you have a cracked battery post. The acid will move up the crack by capilary action and will continue to re-foul the connection. You need a new battery.

+1 You need a new battery. Batteries don't last much past 5 years usually. Especially the ole dependable Exide brands.

Sweet, figured as much, just wanted to confirm. I pulled the battery out last night (sucks that I need a ladder to be able to lift it out), but got lazy and didn't go get a new one. Will probably try that tonight.

I'm kinda impressed still though. I think it's a Champion, 7 years ain't bad at all.
