Old guys with 12As club meeting
Fred, I'm hoping you were able to hookup with some of the OGTAs up at DGRR that had your charcoal canister, but it sounds like there may have been too many distractions for that. Let me know if not and you're going to the May OGTA, I'll bring along another one.

hey donnie,
i'll be looking over the entire fuel system when i find time, including dropping the tank. the previous owner told me he did check it and from what's i've seen so far, all the things he's mentioned have been true but doesn't hurt to double check. the easiest thing to check to see if there's gunk in the tank is to take a look at my new pre-filter to see if it's clogged or not. i'll be changing my fuel pump again and also changing the stock fuel filter.
mike, nothing you could have helped with...i just had to wait for the tow truck so no need to waste anyone's time. thanks though.

yes, thanks! mike did give me the canister you had brought up there for me. need to take a closer look cause the small nipple on the canister seemed like it was plugged by some metal plug so will try to drill that out and see if it's functional. thanks!
I think one of the ports on the canister has a metal inset in it, with a smaller hole in the center, which I suppose serves some purpose. Mike is an expert on the charcoal canister, maybe he can explain.
Other that that the mud wasps have clogged up just about every suitable opening in my parts shed with their mud dauber activities, kind of a nuisance but easy to clean out with a bit of poking, washing and compressed air.

If you need another one I have like 20 FC charcoal canisters, free to good home :-)

alex, ha! that's when i started having issues with my fuel pump so i was slooooowwww going through the dragon. ray, i'll try to drill it out but if that doesn't work, i'll hit up brett for an fc one. thanks guys! =)
can someone please confirm there is/is not a "metal insert" in the smaller of the two ports on their canister, that would be awesome. i'm not in a hurry so any time if it comes to mind when you work on the car. tia!

OGTA

Fred, I'll take a look at mine tonight. I think I have a spare, I'll check that one out too.
It seems like I vaguely remember drilling one out because I could not blow through it. The smaller port, on 84 & 85, is to vent fuel tank pressure. My logic was that if you can't blow through it, it is not working. But I am an OGTA and I forget stuff. What was your name again?

The insert in the smaller pipe is a flow restricter, which is probably important for proper functioning of the charcoal canister or it wouldn't be there.
It flows both ways, so it's not a check valve.
But it does need to flow freely and at the same time restrict air flow, so if you drill it out use a really small bit.
I would think a little poking with a needle or wire would do the trick.

If it doesn't work Fred, I've got three more.
All you need to do is get that crate of yours over to the 5-6-14 OGTA meeting, we can install it in the parking lot.
That's diet beer Robert. Some of us are watching our figure.

As much as I hate to admit it, I think I'm going to get rid of my GSL-SE. Mainly because it's not getting driven as often as I'd like, and I hate to let an engine this fresh just sit.
I'd like to sell it to another rotor head rather than some chump from Craigslist. Here is my FS ad: https://www.rx7club.com/se-sale-want.../#post11729176

I'd buy it Brett if I had some money and it had a carb.
But I'm telling you, you're making the biggest mistake since you sold that red 85 GS.
How's Tara going to get to the OGTA meetings?
BMW, datsun, whatever? It won't be this pretty:

Its a shame you are getting rid of it Brett. Im in the market for a new first gen, my 12a in the red car has a blown coolant seal. I'll let you know if my current deal falls through.
Hey Ray, I have a Dual Weber 36 DCD set up for the 12a with your name on it. Let me know when you want to down grade from the nikki

Very very tempting Alex, if I hadn't just spent $330 of Cathy's money on a pair of rotor housings I'd go for it. My cash reserves won't be replenished for another 6-12 months.
But if you can hold on to it for 6 months or think of anything I might have to trade and we can set up an easy payment plan, let me know!
Or maybe you should rebuild that 12A with the blown coolant seal? If it was running well when the coolant leak started it may have good potential for a rebuild.

ray, mike, crit, any of you want fuel filters for a 12a? i ordered 2 from rockauto but they had it listed incorrectly under the 1.3l (with no picture) so i have no use for them. i can't make it to OGTA today but can bring with me next time i see u or if u want to stop by my house, u are more than welcome (alpharetta). let me know.
