Good lord, why would I ever have removed the motor to replace a pilot bearing? I mean if I had new mounts and **** I'd just yank the chunk, replace all of the mounts, replace the bearing and pop it back in as a chunk.
But anyways, Crit, your impact was a Godsend yet again! Maybe I'll buy my own with my tax refund this year. I just don't see how anyone can work on an old car without one of these things!
So since I didn't go to school today (Apparently I've got a fantastic allergic reaction to SOMETHING I came into contact with or ate and I'm COVERED in this awesome skin rash... I worked on the car.
The Flowery Branch Autozone had one release bearing in stock, so I drove to go get it (And got a nice discount for it) only to discover when I got home that the part number they've got for it is not indeed the correct part in reality for the car! Joy.. So, by this time, the massive dose of steroids I took had kicked in by now and I was getting a bit pissed off, so I replaced the pilot bearing and mounted the gearbox back up in the car. Filled it with gear oil, reconnected and repaired some wiring, reinstalled the starter, etc, etc... Now all that's left to do is to hang the exhaust back up and away I'll go!
Someone other than myself might be happy to hear that my flywheel has absolutely no cracks in it, my clutch is in really good shape for being up to four years old, and...well..that's the good news..
So the bad news is:
- Didn't replace the release bearing. Shame on me, but whatever.
- My clutch slave - upon bolting it back to the bellhousing - did absolutely NOTHING. Clutch to the floor with a light as air feeling, stuck there for a second, and then would pop back up on the return spring. The part that made me want to break someone's face was when I went to grab my bottle of synthetic brake fluid only to find that it was MISSING. Seeing as my dad doesn't need brake fluid for anything, the brand new, on-opened bottle of liquid money had to have been taken and used by my older brother... without asking.. He'll deny it, of course.. It's okay though, I'll get him back.
Upon bleeding the clutch it appears to be working fine again.. But I won't know for sure again until I drive the car.
- My clutch hydraulic line is in **** poor condition
- The underbody rust is getting worse
- My transmission mounts are shot and the rubber isolator is now torn and broken because the old mounts wore out and it's not meant to support any weight. New crossmember for me when I want to replace the motor and transmission mounts.. Lucky me.
I guess that's all there is for now..

$700? Holy crap. I'm guessing new bushings and mounts on everything, an Exedy clutch kit, a new clutch line, all new vacuum lines, and some good quality transmission/ diff oil. lol. Speaking of flywheels, I need a good one to go back on the FC's new motor but I'm too cheap to buy a new one. Know of anyone with a good condition one?
Anywho, anyone need an Equinox?

Gah.. It's a good thing I ordered new hydraulics. Mine are dead again. >.>
Before anyone goes and says that was my problem the whole time, note that I had working hydraulics while I was having issues. Now I haz none
Edit: I probably cracked the line open a bit when I bent the slave out of the way upon removal. More inspection tomorrow after I hang the exhaust.

Today I bolted the exhaust back into the car. I also replaced my fuel pump sock and used a bit of gas resistant non-hardening sealant underneath the gasket to eliminate (Hopefully) more leaks from that. I bled the clutch again because it was dead this morning.. Drove around the neighborhood a bit. I think my slave is actually going to give out..it just doesn't feel right. It doesn't feel like it was when the pilot bearing was going out, just...the feel of it is off a bit. Might drive it to work tonight with my mitivac and a bottle of brake fluid handy.
However, the coastal gear oil I put in the gearbox SUCKS donkey *****. Literally. Unless I double-clutch, I cannot downshift into 2nd gear at all anymore.. It was difficult before and required precise rev-matching, but it would cooperate.. I guess fresh Redline is in my future. -sigh- More money!
The inside of my tank looks fantastic.. No rust anywhere, but there are some particles of **** in the bottom. I was going to siphon them out with my mitivac but was running out of time.
I can't wait until all my new fancy parts get here.

I got a slave and master from autozone like 3 years ago and have had no problems with them. Cheap too. Make sure you BENCH BLEED before installing. Saves so much time and effort.

Hey Collin, If you don't have much fuel in the tank just drain it from the drain plug. On our s5 it is on the passenger side front of the bottom of the tank Have to remove some undercoat to get at it but makes life way easier. The fuel actually destroyed my SNAP-ON air speed bleeder.( $$ down the drain) I don't reccomend fuel thru your Mightyvac.
I just did this to our s5 as it had alot of rust sludge under the fuel pump in the sump tank. I used a magnet for awhile but it was taking forever with as much as I had in there.
Also replaced the shifter selector bushing. Which means removing the trans and taking off the tail housing to install. Total job took me 7 hrs with a 3 hr lunch...( 3 beer lunch)
What time is the meet this month? 6 or 7?
Billy, I may try and come check out the REPU if timing works for you. Let me know

Sure, Eggshell is just a matter of mixing the clear properly. I am actually on the fence on whether to do a eggshell/satin finish on the FD when I do that one later this year.
I will try to get the OK to make the trip tomorrow. The wife has a huge trial and is in no mood to negotiate

Well OK Tim, if you want to come, I'll stay home. But then you won't be able to pick up your Official 2010 OGTA calendar. Your choice.
Speaking of the Calendar, Billy, what's the dates for ZoomFest 2010? I'll mark them on the Calendar, which should be in final draft form soon (but I'll post here first because I know somebody will want to change something).

Here are items from the box-o-stuff I got from Kevin Gallo. There may be a few more items floating around my garage. Anyway I was planning to bring this stuff to the meeting this coming Tuesday if anybody wants any of it.
