the rotors need to be smaller to look right. those that didn't know better wouldn't know what they were.

 

I miss my RX-7! I've been driving my Jetta for a few days to save on gas because my bank account has gone "Ummmmm....No.".

 

Michael, I'm joking about the "cryptic X" of course, anyone can see that is the I40/I77 interchange! But I agree, the rotors would look a little better if they were smaller (and then there's that small "s" in sunday).

I'm trying to generate a little critical evaluation of our various business card proposals, but it may be that OGTA is not quite ready for the big time.

In any event, it looks like the info you guys have on there is what the OGTA folks were asking for, so I think I'll put together another plan that has a little of everybody's suggestions in it, should look like a Where's Waldo puzzle.

Or maybe we could get Brett or Kent to do this? Or maybe Billy, he's familiar with the web site: www.vistaprint.com. This is a kind of nice design:



Also, we need to decide on a next meeting date. Should we go back to the first Tuesday of the month? That would be Feb 5.

Well, I've only seen mine, Ray's, and Brett's (not sure if there are others). Out of the ones that I did, I like 1 and 3 the best. #2 would need to be cleaned up a bit. The 12A pic is from the REPU FSM. Best I could find offhand, but is a bit busy. Could clean it up a bit, but still not sure how well it would print. Something simple like a rotor or an outline of a 1st gen (like card #1) is simple and gets the point across on what this is about.

Of course, the text on mine was just placeholder stuff. We could put whatever on there. Brett's is nice, but perhaps need to simplify it some. To me, it is best not to put specifics like a meeting time and location. You never know when that stuff might change and then you'd have to re-print the cards each time.

Ray's is very simple. The only problem that I see is that it may be too simple. If you left the card under a windshield, people might think it is junk and throw it away (unless they catch the rotor, they are rotorheads, etc.). A newbie to 7s may not even know what a rotor looks like. Also, business cards tend to get stashed away (especially when people get a lot of them). It is good to spell out what this card is about to remind people. Otherwise, they may say "What the hell is OGTA?”... "It's probably just junk..."

With all that said, I think card #1 would be best... This group is mainly 1st gen owners and having a 1st gen on the card would catch the attention of all 1st gen owners (experienced, newbies, etc.). This is just my opinion on things. Of course, the layout, text, etc. could be changed. It is just a starting point.

To me, the card needs:
- the text "OGTA"
- OGTA spelled out
- a picture that represents the group (1st gen, rotor, etc.)
- not be too busy / print well
- consider additional costs of printing color... All black is simple and inexpensive
- contact info (email, this thread, name/number of someone to contact)

Just my $0.02.

 

Ray, you can upload the design and have exactly what you want. You are not forced to use the templates. The other cool thing about them is the cards can be full color.

If you guys decide on a design, I can setup the account and the upload to get them in the works.

I have been looking into some stuff based on a topic brought up by Holly, Yahoo groups.

I have plenty of webspace and have found a few PHP based scripts we can use for a "Group".

I would be happy to set it up for us to use if we all agree. If done properly it can make the web address on the business cards shorter and easier to remember. It would also allow us a more customizable deal than a yahoo group.

We can set it up like a forum, mailing list or a groupware. The mailing list can digest so it can be browsed like a web page. The groupware does all sorts of cool stuff. Real time chat, PM, calender of events and so on.

We have two server choices that could be used. vintagerotaries.org and re-speed.com. If we did decide to purchase a domain for the group then the address can be whatever we want it to be.

I'm liking Kent's #1 with appropriate annotations (ie, get my name out of there!). It features our car's classic and unmistakable lines, which should avoid any confusion about the purpose of the cards.

Maybe we could substitute my orange and black "OG@TA" logo where Kent has his "OGTA"? The "OG@TA" logo might seem obscure now, but as the fame and popularity of our club spreads across the nation, it will become as familiar as this one:

I agree, Ray. I think that card #1 w/ the OG@TA would be cool. Of course, we can change the text up to whatever you guys want. If you guys let me know what you want and I can put something together. Once everyone agrees, we can have some printed up.

I also think it would be cool to put up a club webpage on Billy's site. Be nice to show pictures, info on future events, and that sort of thing.

I seriously believe that the third choice of the card is the best. The one with the black and white sketched rotor. Simple O.G.T.A. text underneath. Your name and email addy and web URL to this thread. Then on the back of the card we can write whoever left the card and their phone number or whatever. Leave it under a wiper blade.

The first gen sketch on the first choice card is alright, but a little bit of a limiter if we leave it on an FC or FD. The blue OGTA lettering and stuff...sorry...it's just plain tacky.

I'm pretty sure you are talking about my #3. I wasn't at the meet, so I'm not sure what Holly was passing around. Anyway.. Mine were:
#1: 1st gen on it
#2: outline of a 12A engine
#3: rotor outline

Ray, my post with the .pdf of all three are on page 25 of this thread. Personally, I like #1 the best, #3 in close 2nd. It somewhat depends on the target audience for this club. The 1st gen is appropriate as this is "Old Guys with 12As" afterall. #3 is better for if you want a general rotary club (I know that there are already FCs and such in the group). To me, #1 is good because someone who just got a 1st gen may not even know what a rotor looks like. With the outline of a 1st gen, they'll know right away that this club is for RX-7s.

 

what about the fact that the young guys out number the old guys? theres 13b cars? theres girls?

 

Ray, no matter what you pic, I'm cool with it. You won't get everyone to agree on the same one, so if it has to be just pick two / three of the ones you like and then have a vote. I was not able to see all of them, but I'm easy. Just to have something you can hand out is better than nothing.

 

I think Kent's got it figured out. Kent, could you send me a high res file with your line drawing of the FB? I'll mock up a card featuring the car, the OG@TA logo and the generic text (Old Guys .... But not Slow) and information (link to the OGTA thread).

Collin, you (or others) might want to do the same thing with your idea of being more inclusive of 13Bs and FCs and FBs and stuff like that, certainly there is no effort or reason to exclude any rotor head from the OGTA group.

But I warn you, it is going to be hard to impress an Old Guy with a car that doesn't have a carb ("carb" is short for "carburetor", the thing one top of the engine under that blue thing. The carb delivers gas through a mechanical linkage to your right foot, something you may be lucky enough to experience some day).

Anybody get any snow out there? Not here, even though the weather people have co-opted local programming for the last 48 hours, first warning us about a major snow storm and arctic cold, then reporting endlessly on a skim of snow they found somewhere and parked DOT trucks loaded with salt and sand. I sure hope they get off the TV before the Pat's game tonight.

Sure, Ray. Maybe you could pm me your email address. For the line drawing, even the best one I have isn't that great. Got it off the RX-7 parts fiche (scanned .pdf). So, not so great. I will see if I can find a better version. Also, if anyone knows of a good line drawing, we could use it. Perhaps someone with photoshop could covert a pic of their RX-7 to a line drawing?

Naw those are the 79 LE wheels on a 81-85.... That car also has the SA trim and FB trim.. weird...
