Old guys with 12As club meeting
Well my cousin KArl and I found him a car. He is now a proud new owner of a 1983 Solar Gold Rx-7 GSL. It is perfect. It is completely mechanically sound in every way. All electrical accessories work except the interior lights and he only paid 1 grand for it. Starts, runs, drives well, it just needs new brakes.
Good deal Chris.
I had a 1983. As I recall, that color was called Maya Gold.
Anyway, I really liked the color and someday wish to have another.
Did you dig into my Nikki at all? Curious how it looked after 200K miles and sitting in my garage for 4 or 5 years.

We cleaned it out the best we could without disassembling it. We jammed the little red aerosol straws from cans of carb cleaner into the little visible holes on top of the jets and cleaner was running out of the little tubes hanging over the ventruries, I don't know if this is good or bad. In a good way, it means the passage between the top and side is clear, in the bad, it is possible that the cleaner wasn't coming out through the hole in the bottom so it was running over the side exit, although I doubt the hole in the bottom of the jet would be large enough to flow as fast as the spray cleaner, so it's possibly still good. We also injected cleaners into the fuel inlets and scrubbed the sight glasses clean. The floats shut off the flow at halfway like it should, and the fluids were crystal clear when we overturned the carburetor after a little bit of shaking and letting the cleaners in the float bowls soak. we ended up not needing your Nikki as the car with a bad carburetor was sold out beneath us and we found a really good deal on an already running car last minute (the gold one). I guess Karl and I just did a free carb cleaning service but as far as we could tell, all checked out. I'll be giving the carburetor back to you when I find the time.
Also, to Mike (the guy who let Karl borrow the wheels) Those "+" wheels are in much better condition than the ones on his car. Karl might be too afraid to ask this but I might as wlel try for him. Is it possible if he gives you the dull gray "+" wheels that came on his car, and you let him keep the nice polished and black ones he's borrowing now? If you're not using them, Karl really doesn't like the wheels he has mounted now but if you want them back don't worry, we'll just restore the current "+"s.

I should be able to put together a reasonable set of X wheels, no tires, not quite as shiny as Mike or Kevin's, but not bad and with the OGTA discount.
Assuming of course Karl has the wisdom to join OGTA. We need to see the car at Jeffery's on a Tuesday night, get the official Car and Driver Photo in the archives, have the regulars gawk at the Mayan Gold for awhile, etc. Next meeting, 07-07-09.
We ain't even seen pictures of that gold car yet, beyond the craigslist blurs. How 'bout it Chris, you know how to use a camera. Snap some shots and put 'em up. (interior, engine compartment, rust check under the rear storage bins, the usual stuff).
Oh and Kevin, if Karl doesn't want your X wheels, I'll take them! Perfect X wheels are worth their weight in aluminum, the tires are a bonus I can use to wheel the Silver One around the yard with.

Yeah I need to get good pics, and Karl wants to talk with his boss about making OGTA a regular attendance thing. The pics might be a ways off as Karl works from 11 to 9 every weekday. The interior is ok, it needs a little bit of work, including a new brown dashboard and brown rear carpeting.
Stupid post count restrictions.... Anyways, I'm Karl, Chris' cousin. I'm going to try to make it on the 7th if possible. They hate giving us time off, but I'll see what I can do. As far as the car goes, it's great except for the brakes, which will be done no later than this weekend. As long as there are no hassles with getting it registered I'll be good to go. Anyways I'm sure I will be picking everyone's brains for tech advice and whatnot. I also want to thank everyone that has already tried to help. This seems like a great community to be a part of and I can't wait to put some faces with names.
Welcome Karl, nice find! Where'd you get that thing anyway? I have a decent set of stock brake hoses, recovered from one of my parts cars, if it turns out you need any of those (I put them in new a few years ago as stock Mazda OEM parts). Also some brown leather door panels from an 84/85 GSL, the last items left from my brown interior days. Greg the Elder may be able to help you with some brown interior parts, he's the brown czar these days. I always liked that Mayan Gold!
I found it up in Rossville, GA which is right near the GA/TN border up I-75. It was a haul, but I think it was a pretty good deal. I'll let you know about the brake hoses and I appreciate the offer. The door panels are actually in really good shape, but I could use some non-ripped seats if anyone has some they would like to part with. Also they painted the entire dash silver which looks like ****! So if anyone has those pieces just laying around as well I will gladly take them off your hands.

I want to keep the tires and wheels. I am still hoping to use them for autox or PDX or something. But I do have 4 more + wheels you are welcome to have. They are not in as good a shape as the ones I loaned you, but the with the OGTA discount the price is right.
I will probably take them. The tires on my car have a good bit of tread too, but they do look a little aged. If no one has taken them off your hands by next Friday (payday) I'll probably take them.
Dragon Trip
Hey guys,
Any of you interested in hitting the Dragon in Mid-August? Our local Mazda Club is heading down there. Mostly RX-8s and boinger powered Mazdas. How 'bout we show them what the 7s are made of?

Our meet #8 will be @ the Tail of the Dragon which is located on the North Carolina/Tennessee border. Advance notice is being given so you can plan for the trip of a lifetime (for you and your car that is).
When: August 14th - 16th (Friday thru Sunday) One day early for long distance travelers is available.
Where: Fontana Village Resort
Who: Coordinated by the Central Virginia Mazda Club but many other Mazda owners from other areas will attend. Open to all Mazda vehicle owners and their family or friends. It would be cool to see a club banner from each different group displayed outside your cabin.
Reserved cabins: We have 11 Laurel cabins reserved that are positioned around a trout pond in the middle of Fontana Village. This will be "Mazda Central" if we all act quickly and reserve our spaces. We have them reserved until July 14th before they are open to the public. They are two bedroom units with one bedroom containing two twin beds. Units are equipped with a kitchen and living room for plenty of space to divide your costs with 2 or 3 other roommates.
There will also be Lodge rooms and one bedroom cabins along Cheoah Way available if you prefer not to be in a two bedroom amongst the masses.
Group room rates: Laurel two bedroom ($109/night), Lodge rooms ($89/night), Willows on Cheoah Way, one bedroom cabins ($99/night). Room sharing should be worked out on your own although posting a request on the forum is encouraged. Fontana will not take reservations from three different people for one Laurel cabin. Please decide who will put the cabin on reserve and then coordinate your roommates.
You must ask the operator reserving your room for the Central Virginia Mazda Club event to receive these rates.
We will add a small, optional registration fee later to cover t-shirts, lanyards and such. But for now, get your rooms!

I have a nice set of SA waffles painted to look like SA gold anniversary edition wheels. They have some decent tires on them. I also have the full size spare with a new tire on it, but it isnt painted.
I will sale the set for $100, or $120 with the spare. I could possibly paint the spare for you as well.
