Mountain Run to Gorges State Park 3/22
Some guys from the Atlanta area a planning a drive up to Gorges State Park on March 22. Gorges is near Highlands, NC, if you are familiar with the area. This should be a great ride through beautiful mountain roads. Gorges is fairly centrally located between Chattanooga, Atlanta, Charlotte, and Knoxville. Tenetively, thinking about a noon time meet, but the time is not really set yet. Post if you are interested in going.
The NC Park Service at Gorges State Park says they have parking and picnic facilities that will accomodate 15-20 cars. The road and parking is gravel, but should not present a ground clearance problem. We would have to use the Frozen Creek Road (east side of park) entrance. The park enterance off of NC 281 is unders contruction.
The link below is the web site for the park. It provides a lot of information and interactive maps so you can plot your probable route to the park.

We have 4 people saying they are going so far. The drive is 2 weeks from today.
Anyone else thinking about making this trip? Should be a great drive, if the weather cooperates.

Bill, there will probably be a number of cars with an empty passenger seat leaving from the NE ATL area. If you are interested in riding up, I bet we can find a ride for you. You may even get some drive time.
Thanks again,
Bill
The idea was tossed out to meet at the Road Atlanta exit on 985 (Hwy 53, I believe). I think Holly said there is a Cracker Barrel there. We have not set the time yet, but if we want to get there by noon we probably should leave around 9. This should give us pleanty of time. For those who want to meet for breakfast, we can meet there around 8.
What does everyone think? Holly, are sure there is a Cracker Barrel there?

The Ashville people may want to meet up with us at another stop. I suggest bringing 2-way FRS radios and set on channel 7, as cell phones will probably not work.

I talked with the people at the park and we will not need a permit to meet there.
They did mention that if anyone shows up from Huntersville, NC they should pay me $30 - go figure.

Allen,
It would be really cool if you and/or some of the local guys can make it out. Maybe you could help us map out a little drive around the area to see some of the scenic attactions, if we are not too saddle sore from the trip up.
