There's maps and pictures we took from last year's event. The Cherohala Highway IS an awesome drive, with several places along the way to pull over and take pictures, both of the scenic view and group shots. We did the Cher-Dragon loop....taking the Dragon out and the Cherohala Highway back. Several challenged the Dragon three and four times.

Another cool place for pictures is Fontana or "Fugitive's" Dam, where Harrison Ford jumped off in the movie.... At the base is a field where a hundred cars could fit with the dam in the background.

Additionally, there's some videos of the run on the site below.

http://www.killboy.com/

We never saw the first cop on the Dragon or the Cherohala. I understand that they are more strict on folks crossing the double yellow, than they are with speeders.

Keep an eye on the weather. www.tailofthedragon.com has local weather updates...

You guys will enjoy yourselves thoroughly. It's an awesome drive with some awesome twisties and awesome scenery. Have a Great Time!

I am staying an extra day, leaving on Monday so that I can be sure of getting some time on the Skyway. From what everyone that has been up there has said you should drive it for the scenery while you in the area. I figure it would be a good place to spend Sunday afternoon. Anyone hanging around on Sunday?

That's the Smokey Mountain Mansion, the chalet we rented as "base camp" during our stay up there. It was a classy place and runs about $975 a night, although they are negotiable. It came out to about $60 a night per person. We had a BLAST there...

I'd stay around, but only if someone else from florida somewhere was to stay so the ride back wouldnt be so boring.

You probably need an extra day to get un shrivled, seeing how you are going to spend most of your time in the TUB!

Yeah, it is tough. I'm thinking about do a mod to my FC, let me know what you guys think. I'm gonna remove the rear hatch, remove the bins, and cut out the rear deck and install a hot tub in the back. I figure if I can recirculate the water around the CC and exhausts to keep it nice and toasty.

What do you mean? We got to drive on Saturday? Well I guess I could start the drive, pull over a mile or so from the village, pretend to have a mechanical problem and make it back to the hot tub before the water gets cold. Then leave and find a place on a side road to wait on y'all to pass then tag on at the end of the line and drive back in with everyone. Who'd know?

20B10AE has a gap video of a bike getting waxed by a red FD. I think he needs to put up a link to it so that you guys can see what your up against here. This mountain road is not an avarage scenic view filled road. If you spend any time looking at the view (through the trees) you are either going to run into the side of the mountiain, off the mountain or take out another driver/rider.

Sorry I'm rambling but the last 2 times I was up there Ive had to pull bikes back up the side of the mountain. Also saw an Aprillia 1000 break in half on the skyway. Dont think the truck will pull any of the 7's.

Hmmm.... Maybe it's just me, but it seems that we need another thread for this. One for the pertinant information, and one for all the other crap about t-shirts and random post whoring. So that someone trying to get important information about the event doesn't have to go through 22 pages of stuff. Just a thought.
