I get 19 on mine in mixed driving, 22 on the hightway. If yours still has low mileage, the gas consumption should get better. When I first got mine I was getting 13-14mpg, which sucked, but the 19 I get now is decent.

Well on the MSRP sticker it states that it gets 18-24 and i averaged it out to about 18 on the road and i never went above 70mph. I am thinking becuase of the new side porting, that is a major contribution to the poor MPG.
But man even my T2 got a little better even when my foot was in it al the time. But for the last 3 days i have babied this thing. Although i did find out that it will do 90 in 3rd gear, but thats the only remote time i actually beat the car.
Does drive very nice on the freeway ''I-10'' and i love it because whenever somoene drives by it they always stare.

If thats 18 all highway then yeah, that's pretty sucko. If thats mixed then 18 is about as good as it's going to get for yah.
If you don't plan on putting in a new intake, put in a K&N reusable air filter. It gave me a 1-2mpg boost along with benefit of never having to replace the thing.
After almost 3 years with mine, I've learned to ignore the mpg haha. It's normal to me now and anything with 20+ gets 'good' gas mileage .
That right there never gets old. After 3 years, I still get people stopping to take a look. Very refreshing feeling. Glad to hear you're enjoying it .

Congrats on the buy. RX-8's are a very fun car to drive. Don't worry about the mileage...you don't buy these cars for that. I think the best I've seen in mine is ~20.5 mpg on the highway at about 80-85 mph.
Here's a pic of mine and a pic of the TII vert. I would have put them side by side but I didn't feel like pushing the vert out of the garage.
