push it to the street.. take anything you want out of it... remove plates and let them tow it... and they will keep it until someone pays to get it out....

there is no plates on it now.. And since they know the car is mine even though I never registered it or changed the title to my name I already told the cop it was mine anyway he is giving me a ticket friday if it's not gone.. I guess I'm going to sell it to a junkyard.. I'll probably only get 25 dollars off it.

I'll get you my address in a PM and stuff but um.. I probably won't be home for atleast until 4ish tomorrow and if this girl lets me come over I probably will be leaving then but you guys are welcome to just come and take whatever I'll tell my dad if you guys are coming.. I guess you should probably leave the wheels so that when these people take it they don't have a fit.

Dunno if any of you guys would be interested but someone I know is selling an 88 FC locally for 600. Figured it would be a prime buy for someone looking for a project.

The car is on your property and they're going to fine you and tow it? I'm not a lawyer or anything but what if you simply cover it up? It's not like they can obtain a search warrant just to see if you're "hiding" a broken car on your property. Also a good way to prevent a car from being towed is to chain a big *** dog to it

I'm going to call the police station today and see about covering it up to extent its stay.. but Basically what they are saying is is you own a car in the city then it must have tags or you must get rid of it.. so Morristown is against project cars. Anyway their is probably a law that says if it's covered it's cool but since I've been told that they were taking it away covering it up probably will not work. Hopefully Joey and Jeremy will just give me the money for tags.. BTW if anyone can get temp tags that'd be cheaper and better. As hopefully they can get it gone before the temp tags expire.

But really though this is Morristown the same police dept told me when I had money stolen that I shoulda had a bank and sent me on my way.

Well if you need a random tag to throw on it, you can borrow one of my out of state ones. Might at least confuse them for a bit so you can have time to deal with it.

I'm pretty sure they are going to run the plates.. so putting plates on it is out of the question and the car doesn't run so it can't be a track car and it's not looking the best.. anyway.. I'm just going to have it crushed or see if maybe a junkyard will come and get it. That'll alteast get me out of a ticket.

Hey everyone, I live in Knoxville. I'm looking into buying a used RX-7 as my first car because my dad used to own a '84 GSL-SE, and ever since then I've loved RX-7's. And I'm wondering if there is anything I should look out for when shopping for an RX-7?

As well as, is working on an RX-7 engine difficult? My father and I do most of the vehicle maintenance on our currents cars ourselves so we aren't inept we just don't want to get in over our heads. Also, are any speciality tools required to work on a rotory engine?

Thanks,
Jonathan

Well, do what you gotta do. Maybe you can disassemble it and move it into the house, that'd be interesting. Or construct a makeshift garage around it. Somebody call the A-Team!

At the very least I'd strip the car as much as you can, get the doors, windows, hatch, and the drivetrain if you have time. In the future I'd look into the laws in your city/county... there's probably a big grey area inbetween what classifies as a project and a road vehicle.

Welcome. If you check the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gen sections of our forums, you'll find a number of FAQs full of info. The 2nd Gen FAQ in particular has some links to some excellent buyer's guides. If you and your father are already accustomed to working on car engines, then learning to work on a rotary won't be a big deal. On the outside they use most of the same components as a piston engine. If you need to rebuild it, there are videos that walk you through it and there is a shop in Morristown that does rebuilds if you don't want to fool with it.

Battlecattle is right... a good set of metric tools is enough to pretty much disassemble the car and put it back together. I wouldn't worry about special tools, just a 3/4" socket for the spark plugs.

Well I'm wanting to strip it down but I can't do it myself.. I'd get too frustrated but if anyone if willing to help I'll let them keep whatever or they can just know that they almost saved a seven.. I just want the taillights because that's probably all I can sell besides the glass and I don't know how to remove it.. and it'll probably not be worth it in the end.. I need it gone by monday for sure I'd like to have it gone by tomorrow so I don't get fined.. I'm calling a junkyard tomorrow and if he can't take it for free or whatever. I'm getting it crushed I guess.

Welcome to the club Jonathan, and congrats for posting in here....well on your way to being a full fledged rotor head. THeres nothing mystical/mythical bout a rotary, i find it much much much more simple to maintain and fix than any pissed on car ever.

Basic things to look for when shopping rotaries...car lots generally want 4x more than what id be willing to pay for a NA.... ie seen 4 examples of 500-1000 dollar cars sell for 3 and 4 grand cuz they think the engine is exotic. But anyway, always consider the following when looking at a used 7. Start it up and see if it smokes and dtermine the color and smell. If its sweet smelling and white then its coolant and you should run away unless its a very cheap car or has a badass body with decent wheels and rubber left. Check for the usual rust area's, pop teh hood and check over 'mods' done by a prev. owner and ask yourself if it could have been done better and see if they can lower the price on it. NA rotaries can go 200K miles before it starts showing signs of a rebuild in the future, T2's 100-150k, FD's....100k if youre a lucky bastard. Check anything you would a normal car, and take a compression tester with you. A normal piston tester will suffice, www.rotaryresurrection.com can show/tell you how to properly perform the standard poor mans test as well as using a normal tester, and if you got the money....share with us the $$$$ mazda oem digital rotary tester <.<

We have regular meets every other saturday, which means saturday after this one is the next meet, then one more meet before we head to DGRR.

Special tools....ummm.... a good low profile jack, stands, a 54(? or 52)mm socket for teh flywheel nut, and a full set of metric sockets from 8mm-21mm, wrenches int eh same sizes, heavy amounts of degreaser(dirty engine bays are hotter with a rotary at work) and the will to bust knuckles at will.

-Derrick
