Stock chassis FB Street Machine

Good morning from the quiet Pacific Northwest.

Here is my build I have been working on since October or so.

Engine: 13B REW Sides, S5 TII small p-port hopusings, S4 NA 2mm rotors, Holley 650 with a modified J&W intake
Chassis: 1983 GS Limited Edition FB
Drivetrain: Rebuilt TII Transmission, Ford 8.8 with big Ford Axle ends
Stoppers: Complete GSL-SE
Tires: 15 inch 26x8 MT Drag Radials and Firestone 26x4 from Coker Tire.

Just looking to have some fun up here since there are not too many rotary powered drag cars up here. Looking to fire it up on Friday.

Good luck to all at the Pan Ams.

We got the car started up and it sounds pretty good so far but it was seeping some oil out of the Oil pedestal sandwich plate. Oil pressure at a steady 100psi. So Ill takle a look at that before I continue. Anyone else have any trouble getting the old school Oil pressure and temp plate to seal using the standard o-rings?

I've had the old RB plates seep a little bit. Not a stream, but an annoying drip every now and then. The newer style seems to be much better.

Only problem with the new one is that I can't get a pressure line after the filter for the front bearing feed. I ended up replacing all o-rings on it and redoing all the thread paste on the fittings. Zero leaks now.

I also ended up having to take the engine apart because it was losing a bit of water. The epoxy had separated from the wall a bit because I had used 2 types of epoxy with different expansion rates. Fixed it up and things are working so far after 4 hours of run time. Test drive tomorrow.

Yes but I will definitely use a boring head instead of a holesaw next time. It made an interference fit impossible. I had to use a small tube expansion tool to press fit the aluminum tubing to the housing because the holesaw had made the hole slightly larger than the o.d. Of the tubing. Next time I will use a thicker walled tubing and turn it down to size for the I dividual holes.
Btw I took it out for a spin finally and I have to admit it is a lot more civil than I expected for this setup. No hard bucking on decel and it accelerates pretty smooth up to around 7k with a fairly restrictive muffler. I am using a 3" flowmaster as a presilencer and then it goes over the axle into a 12a single inlet racing beat power pulse muffler. I definitely have to wrap the flowmaster or get a RB presilencer or RB turbo straight through muffler with a thicker wall.

just curious which epoxy you are using?

i like what i'm hearing here. this is very encouraging. are you planning on switching to a less restrictive system later on or is this satisfactory to you?

Believe it or not I am using the regular JB Weld industro with steel filings I got from my buddy from turning brake rotors mixed in it.

What I did is used high temp silicone at the interference points to create a water seal, then I filled all but the last 3mm with the jb weld. Make sure you don't get any on the wall. Its the paper thin stuff that leads to peeling. Then top off the last 3 mm with high temp silicone after scoring the epoxy surface with heavy grit sandpaper for better adhesion. Do this on all 4 sides.

I also switched out the flowmaster muffler I was using as a presilencer for a second gen RB presilencer... It is by far the quietest BP/PP I have ever heard. My buddy and I drove for about an hour and we could talk to each other in the car that has no carpet installed. It just gets better and better. The only limitation with this exhaust is that you should not rev it past 7k because of backpressure issues.

7k is where it's just starting to make power though. An engine like this needs to breathe. If you choke it down then you will lose power. I made good power with 3" exhaust, no pre silencer into a 3" RB high flow stainless muffler. It was loud, but bearable on the street. If you get a chance, get a video of the car running/idling. I/we would like to hear/see it run. Thanks and nice job

I got it from grannysspeedshop.com and told Grant to shorten it 2 inches from the standard GSL axle length. The rims are 15x8 with 5 1/2" backspacing and I just love the fit. I know I can fit a 10 inch tire in there with no problems.

BTW I did some adjustments and leaned out the jets and added about 10 degrees of timing and I have to say it revs cleaner and pulld a hell of a lot harder now. Cleaned up all the way to 8K with the exhaust setup. SO I guess now its time to have some fun on the Dyno. more to follow soon.

Alright so lets skip the dyno and go straight to the track. Tomorrow is the day, Car is still being reassembled and freshened up for the big day but that's exactly what I expected. I reversed the oil pan and moved the engine further back. I am expecting it to run high 11s low 12s. I'll post up the timeslips and video.
