Quick question for you 'all that went automatic. Does it matter if you have a rear iron that is auto or manual?

Getting a new motor built and would like to know before purchasing a new core.

Thanks.

Any more info on the automatic upgrade Eric? What's going on with you converter K1?

auto bell housing

i have an early (approx year84-89) bell housing bolted up to a 5 speed FD engine.i am not sure if the FD automatic bell housing inside diameter and mounting (bell housing to transmission) is the same as the early one.i know someone that has a 80-83 automatic bell housing bolted up to a five speed FD.the 80-83 (three speed trans)bell housing is about an inch shorter then the 84-89 (four speed overdrive auto).if you have any questions about what my set up is, i will answer any and all questions.i had to modify the bell housing.the inside diameter of the bell housing is about .090 bigger then the out side diameter of the C4 transmission pump.i had our machine shop "sleeve" the inside diameter of the bell housing to fit the C4 transmission pump.there are two bolts in the bell housing that line up to the C4 transmission pump with no modifications.if you choose to use the bolts that line up,what this does is it sets the transmission about 3-4 degrees out of level when it is bolted up to the engine.the transmission will set lower on the drivers side.i have the transmission set up like this in my crap wagon.the trans work very well if you have read any of my posts of the times i have ran so far.in the past four months i have gone from the high 11's to almost the 9 second zone.next time out it will go 9.99 or better.i am making my wheelie bar this weekend.i am going to take it to irwindale (irwindale is a 1/8 mile track) this coming thursday.6.39 or better is a 9.90.it went 6.409 pedaling it,because of the 2 foot wheelie.

the C4 transmission is real small/compact and can be built to handle 1000 HP.very strong little transmission.the best alternative to a clutch-less trans

Thread revival

I have decided to go with the clutchless type box and have bought a second hand Lenco CS3 5 spd.

I would of liked to have kept the C4 and ran the car down into the 8s but financial constraints mean that i have to sell the C4 to continue finishing the car.

We crashed the car quite badly back in 2010 caused by a faulty shock absorber. Hit the wall at approx 120mph rear end first. The car took the impact quite well and fortunately i was fine. The car was repaired and back out racing end of 2010, setting a new pb of 9.5@141mph.

All of 2011 i have been saving my pennies to completely overhaul the car.......shell has been completely redone with new panels, paint and lots of carbon
Engine is a new 13b re cosmo base, new ports, motec m800 ecu and dash, new borg s400 series turbo, 8 injector throttle body, m&w pro drag ignition, new carbon dash, th list goes on and on. Should see at least 200bhp more than previous set up, Car is 250lb lighter now also due to front top half of chassis being tubed.

Will get some pics up when i can, had alot of trouble trying to get on this website recently.

Running with the C4 box was real good, once we got it working correctly with the right internals it never went wrong or gave us problems. If you want consistency in drag racing with a good streetable car (trans cooling set up being correct) then a good quality C4 is a real good choice. I want to go down into the low 8s and hopefully 7s eventually so the Lenco seemed the right choice.....plus it came up at the wrong time but the right price so i couldnt say no.

So i have a complete C4 auto set up for sale with starter, bell housing, box and converter from Tony Dominello. Using shot of gas and a compressed air system the car would launch at 6800-7000rpm, i would see full launch boost within a second so heads up racing was fine.

If anyone interested please email me at garygooding@btinternet.com for pics, spec and price.

Thx

Gary
