why? why? why not Methanol ?

OK i have been really bored at work and thought it would be a good idea to read all the 3rd gen archives (LOL yes i am REALLY bored) so anyways one of the posts was about max psi to obviously get max hp whether fuel and all that jazz was modified, so every one was going on about more fuel more fuel, well what i am actually going on about is that no1 on the forum has mentioned methanol.... ? why not ? here in south africa we use methanol to up the octane of the fuel, like i drive a turbocharged piston (puke) car and well safe on regular 97 octane fuel i can run 1 bar(14psi) and then like i can add a few injectors and run loads of methanol and up that boost to like 1.7 bar(24psi) boost, so like my question is why doesn't anyone do that or even mentioned it ?

sorry about this but its an interesting topic and well i would like to get a massive response to this cause for all u hp junkies would love this.

because methanol is hard to get other than at a race track.

some of us are starting to use water/alcohol injection with great results.

Reasons not to use Methanol:
-$9 per gallon
-readily absorbs moisture and therefore very corrosive to fuel component materials
- burns with a colorless flame
-low energy value therefore consumption is twice that of gasoline which means large fuel tank and injectors required

I was told that methanol corrodes aluminum...however, I think I'm going to run a 50/50 methanol injection kit instead..

Umm methanol is a type of achohol and achohol is non corrosive. I think everyone is very confussed, u connect the methanol injectors with a hob switch and when your boost goes beyond like 10 - 12 psi then the methanol injector ingage and it pumps you up to like 120 octane and u can run your 20 psi boost, so therefore costs are reduced because u only use methanol when you are boosting heavily. so who cares if its $9 a gallon LOL

I have no personal experience with this, but I read somewhere that using a secondary tank of an alternate high octane fuel that kicks in for high boost/nitrous isnt bulletproof because pockets of the lower octane fuel are still in the combustion chamber and are still able to detonate. Just be aware that this could happen and use precaution.

Somebody is very confussed, and it's not RedAnotherDimension.

Methanol is a great fuel... for the race track. If you could fuel up at every gas station it would probably be used more. I think meth. is like compressed natural gas in that it has a *very* high octane number. CNG's octane number is something like 130!
