Not sure where to post this, but here it goes:

I Bought some gilmer style gear/pulleys for my drive belt to turn my water pump and alternator, but unfortunately the belt that came with it didn't fit. Came all the way from AUS, so trying to work that way will take entirely too long.

Does anyone know where I could go to get a custom supercharger or timing belt style drive belt made. I have the specs for the belt I have now if that would help at all. Thanks so much.

If you go to your local auto parts store they'll probably have a stock of belts that you can choose from to get a better fitting one. I've never heard of anyone getting a custom length belt done, just get the closest sized one you can and tension it properly.

 

i've been to the local auto supply, this isn't a common belt at all because it is toothed (similar to a supercharger or timing belt). it is 1.5" wide, and needs to be 37" long (could be 36.5 - 38 since i have the alternator to use as a tensioner) with a specific tooth number and pitch.

it will definitely need to be from somewhere that specializes in belts like this because it is a rare belt. thanks again for any help

Go to any bearing supply house. I think all of them that I've found deal with any kind of power transfer equipment. They usually stock all kinds of belts, bearings, sheaves, chains, couplers and shafts. Just take one of the geared pullies with you and I'll bet they can find you a belt.

 

I have the belt for your gilmer pulley.

 

you can also try custom harley shops, they use those types of belts for the primary drive.

McMaster.com, search for timing belt. Hell get a new toilet while your at it, is there anything you can't get from MMC?

7885K18 its for variable speeds and it's almost 1.5" wide.

I'm wondering all this cuz I don't want to order from Australia for a Gilmer setup. Hopefully, I can piece something together in the US.

As long as my pulley diameters match the stock ones (no underdrive planned) and the pulley teeth and belt cogs match, I should have no problem right?

 

I don't think that will work, That is just a V-bellt with some cogs to allow it to flex better. A V-belt grips on the sides, a timing style belt grips with the cogs and provides a positve mechanical drive. It is waaay better at power transmission because its limit is dependent on material strength not pully grip. I think you need to figure out what your pully cog pitch is and then cross reference that with the timing belt options.

6484K537 is 36.75 around and 3/8" pitch, only one inch wide max though.

I did a search on timing belt pullies. And found this,

I then did a search on the belts according to width and came up with...the same one you mentioned! Looks like you mis-read, it is a 1.5". I don't see where you got 36.75" around though.

So do you think these can be used on a car? As long as the mounting holes are centered, should be ok. Wish I had a running motor to test them on...

It's gonna be an all-day task searching mcmaster, the HTD belts look interesting too. I remember seeing these letters when searching for a belt on supercharger sites.

6484K356 is the 36.75" 1"wide, 3/8" pitch. It's a light duty belt though.

 

i found the belt i needed some time ago. . .i didn't realize there was interest in this beyond me so i stopped checking the thread as soon as i found it. i'll try to snap some picks of it on my motor next time i get the chance/remember too.

i've got mine running on my 20B with the alternator relocated. . . no PS no A/C. it would be hard (not impossible i've found) to run the PS and A/C with gilmer style gears and timing style belts. . .

Owen, if you need help sourcing anything for this project, i can probably point you in the right direction. after getting knee deep into it, i've found that there are probably some better/way more trick routes to the same end.

 

Thanks, I'm definitely interested! I want to keep the AC if at all possible, I think you can just mount the stock pulley onto the front of the gilmer???
