S-AFC-AVCR Allowed by NHRA?

My first time at drag racing, the tech inspector threw me out of any class because I have an Apex AVCR and SAFC! He claimed that because they both have data logging capabilities, they are against the rules.
According to the NHRA Regulations, it states:

"Data recorders may be used to record functions of a vehicle so long as they do not activate any function on the vehicle. Data recorder may not be activated by the throttle, clutch, brake, mechanisms, etc., nor the Christmas Tree, radio transmitters, sensing of wheel speed, inertia, blah blah blah"

So what do you think? Should I fight this or are they right?

The datalogging feature is activated by your figure pushing a button on the AVC-R display. Does it say you cannot have datalogging at all?

Just cover up your AVC-r/AFC and stuff, those datalogging features are almost worthless since they do not give you actual numbers.

Did the inspector know what he was looking at? Was he familiar with the products or did you have to explain what they do?

I'm not REAL familiar with them so correct me if I'm wrong but isnt it just a boost controller and a fuel computer???

Does that mean there is no class for someone that runs a Haltech???? It datalogs!!!!!

Thats total bull ****, i think what the rule is set up for is a recoder that makes changes to the car based on what its recording, like its recording "X" so it adjusts certain perameters in the computer to eliminate that.

Who knows, where there any other imports out there or was it mostly a V8 thing, if so maybe they just didnt want a import out there whipping *** on v8's

Damn, they dont care much for imports.....I guess I'll have to sign up and start posting. It seems like they need a better mixture fo people on thier board and I dont mind helping out with that.

I think most of the v8 guys that dont like imports are just scared of them. They have always "known" that the bigger the faster, more inches = more power "no replacement for displacement". They dont understand the new ways of making a car fast and it scares them to think a 79 c.i. motor will take down thier big block in a heart beat. They just dont understand and it makes them feel belittled.

They need a some education.

BTW - Alot of you track owners and tech inspectors are like those guys and that strengthens my original post about them not understanding the modern technology and what it does. The uneducation of most of these guys is the reason they try to keep you out at the track. They dont want to see thier buddies shade tree big block with open header that you can hear from 5 miles down the road to get waisted by a 79 c.i motor.

Dont get me wrong I like v8's just as much as the next guy, its the uneducated old school thought that I dont like. Believe me we have TONS of that around here and I love taking them down to provide a little education that bigger is NOT better

Hey, don't knock shade-treeness or open headers... it's a wonderful way of life. Especially bridge ported, open-headered rotaries that would eat most turbo rotaries alive...
