I think I read somewhere that you went back to the stock turbo. Is this true?
If so, may I ask why.
Also, What happened to the last motor? I figure you still have the LT8 and Rolo is still tunning.
Thanks
I'll be ordering these RA seals myself for my backup motor

Laying Down Rotary Law
a bit of update I quess is need'd eh
I now have close to 1k on this motor
The Hybrid was smoking so I sold it
and got a New Turbo Kit
I do my own tunning now
I cracked a plate on my last motor and one front apex seal
cuase the A/F was only good for race gas
I now run pump (93) on 11.4-11.2 A/F same boost levels 14-15PSI with no isssues
the A/F's where in the 11.7-11.8 on the last motor
aslo changed the timming maps a bit
So far the RA seals are awesome
no hot start probelms at all
even after doing Numerous pass's down the 1/4
ran 11.8@119 this pass sunday (on DR's) (1.84 60' foot)
would of ran 11.6 on one pass but I miss shifted (1.71 60')
I'll soon run 22 PSI
It's 10's next year or bust

i'll add my .02:
i have the stamped RA 2mm 2piece seals. got them in jan. 04 IIRC.
these are in an aggressively street ported, 9.4:1 compression turbo engine. stock turbo, 10 psi.
i have about 12k miles on mine now. they still seal fine, car runs great. havent tested compression recently, but i will sometime soon and post it up, i know its fine by the way it runs. will hold a 500 rpm idle no problem.
i DID abuse the **** out of mine: short (600 mile) break in, 5k on stock ECU, then an accidental overboost to 14 psi due to a wastegate issue. this was on stock injectors with a roughly tuned LT8. got detonation so bad the seals were audibly rattling, didnt hurt them a bit.
in short, as far as i can tell, the later batches of RA seals are all they claim to be. RWS treated me well, and their kit will be in my next engine.
ted, from back in the first couple pages, i disagree about the longer end piece of the apex:
the longer piece saves you from wear on the end of the rotorhousing, which is where you always see chrome flaking. it does not decrease compression as it expands any more than a stock one would. the slope of the interface is the same, so it moves outward vs upward at the same rate as a stock one, and the fact that it is longer doesnt have any bearing on anything. i know what you are thinking: its longer so the place area of the 'crack' between the seal and the housing surface would be larger, but I think this is really a non-issue. there is enough room for the seal to expand without going 'upward', just like stock, and also, even if it were to happen, the length difference is not that much, so the area difference would be minimal too.
pat
PS that is a DAMN sweet first gen!!

I have the same "stamped" set purchased around the same time (Jan 04). So far I have 1K miles on the motor and I haven't seen any problems yet. I've been running approx 12 psi. I am about to turn up the boost to around 15-17 psi and do some tuning and dyno runs. I'll report any problems but I don't forsee any.

they dont stamp them anymore now because they are all exactly the same dimensions... i callled them and asked because mine was stamped (01/04) and my firends car that we just started up today for the first time werent...... we didnt have an issue with the seals yet... ill keep you guy's informed if we do but i havent in a year!!

Well, I'm not doing anything hard on them (S4 NA), but I have 8000 miles on the seals and they seem to be working just fine - car starts easily, runs strong. I really should get some compression/vacuum numbers, since everything is well broken in by now.

so ...no time for this
looks like RAs are doing well. My engine still in pieces. I just did leak test on rorots and found that one of them is leaking (the one of the stupid tiny OEM corner seal inserted). So now I loss a housing and a rotor. So FYI I need 2 rotors in case you were I can find them... let me know.
PD
RX-8 seals still in good shape so far in the 650 whp 13b I told you once. RAs in my friend's FD still perfect w/23 psi of boost.

My friend just called and said he had low compression, so he decided to open the engine. He says his housing are scratched. We are going to my friends shop tomorrow to measure everything and take pics.
He is going to join the forum and open a new thread with all the info.
CAR
1987 Turbo2
RB exhaust
stock ECU
3k miles on rebuild
New housings
RA seals new batch
He says he never took the car passed 6k rpm. He sounded pretty pissed!!

my firend is having that sort of a problem too. the car is still smoking at startup. its raw fuel. its a 3rd gen and the front rotor has ok compression but the rear is 60... WTF.... the car has been started and idle'd for 20 minutes numerous times. the car has not yet been driven though. (except back and forth) will it build better compression when driven with load???
we are going to do another compression check and post it here. btw, he has the new non stamped set and i have about 8k on my new streetported motor and just did a compression test. i have 93 psi on both rotors... i guess they do break in late but it should be a bit higher....

ok... hopefully nothing to do w/seals (I hope!) I'm about to break-in this week. Will religiously not pass 4500 rpms for 1000 miles to delete that variable. I'll keep you informed. BTW... do not open a new thread, just keep posting here...

Did your friend also use the supplied RA springs or reuse the stock ones?
