from what I've heard, you cant do much porting because mazda did a really good job on it and the ports are already quite big...IIRC if you port out too much, the side seals get hung up.

You can do a little bit to them but it doesn't really involve enlargening them so much as it does working on some other things. Those intake ports are huge. Most large streetports on a 13B are only approaching them in size. The exhaust ports need some work though. Speedsource Racing is getting 260-265 hp at the crank with an internally stock Renesis so it is a quite capable engine as is. You just need to tune it good. RX-8's have a lot of potential left in them. Most just haven't realized it yet. The iontake ports are big enough. There is no point in going larger. Larger doesn't always mean more power.

Yeah, speedsource did a tech session at ss9 and said that they didn't really port them, as much as they just smoothed runners, etc. and yeah those ports are huge.

not anyone... they aren't like the older motors in that respect.

there's 2 in texas, 3 in socal, and one i'm letting a friend borrow. then the one i just put together yesterday, but that's exhaust ported only--no intake.
