But if you can save a set of rotor housings you'd normally throw away...

You would think recycling used housings would come at a cost savings to us all.

Hey all, I know Marc personally and he is a very very intelligent person. I have seen his processes and finished product. They are very nice. Very nice.

He has also showed me a motor that had been cermet coated that went through a serious detonation from bad tuning. The rear iron was blown apart at the dowel pin, but the rotor surface was still perfect. It just shows how strong the coating is to withsatand enough force to blow the iron apart but the coating was flawless.

I am sure he Marc would be very happy to answer peoples question, just give him a call.

I wasn't going to reply to this but i couldn't help myself
Its this type of story which makes me wonder......
if the rear iron was blown apart at the dowel, one would have
expected the rotor to have hit the rotor housing, and i don't think it would matter
what coating was on the rotor housing it would have been damaged.
I am not saying anything bad about this product, hell i have a pair on the way
back from being done, just don't make up amazing stories.

The pictures of that failure are posted under another thread.

https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...&page=44&pp=15

they were caused by hydraulic lock in the rear rotor (both injectors were stuck wide open)

there was no contact between the rotor and the housing.

It was not detonation but extreme failure non the less

sorry, I was mistaken, it wasnt detonation, but to see the dowel pin slot smashed and the surface minty is my point of the story. Strong stuff.

Thats a lot of money .....so what does this do to for housing that are out of spec?If any housing is out of spec you would't use it would you? (I dont know about others)So then when do you use this product...on used stuff thats just fine? In the thread above the dowel pin area broke but the surface was great? So the cerment allows you to reuse this housing.
Lot of money for little to no return. Heat soak?fighting stickion?
I got a coated motor that will still blow do to boost spike, lean out, over heat ...the same things that continue to break turbo motors, but I spent 2,400.00 dollars just cause this stuff is cool. If this will repair out of spec surface to keep from buying brand new housing then its cool. Those pics still scare me.

I would say that being able to resurface rotor housings with a coating that will out last
the stock coating is a good thing, but i would only think of doing it to old out of spec
housings that are no longer any good but have good water jackets.
It cost less to resurface old then to buy a new housing.
This will be even more important when rotor housings (some of which are already)
for our old cars are no longer available from mazda!
ford is putting down its profit minded foot and putting an end to dated parts, even the 3rd
gen is seeing parts listed as no longer available! You have to remember the 3rd gens
are over 10 years old now..
So I for one am keeping my fingers crossed that this resurfacing process proves to be
good and will last as long as stock or longer.

Does Japan have any similar rules or regulations similar to our 10 year parts avalibility agreement?
2002+10=2012 before any real problems occur…but if you think about it floor mats for the 3rd gens haven’t been available in the US for a while now. I don’t know if that qualifies, as it is not running gear.
