PGD's 2!!! Pump Gas Drags 2

Like the title says, Hot Rod Magazine is holding the PGD 2 on may 13 2005.

Basically if you guys don't know what it is, Hot Rod selects 50 cars, to race in memphisis(sp), TN. You are only allowed 10 gallons of 93.2 octane, which they supply, and then you must drive 30 miles to the drag strip without stopping. From there you will make 3 runs. After each run you must return to the starting lanes and wait your turn to make the next run until you have completed 3 of them. You can't work on you car or pop your hood after/during the drive. You may open nitrious bottles or do electronic tuning.

I thought it would be cool if someone from our community entered. To be competitive you would need to run low 9's high 8's. Last years fastest time was something like a 9.09 and you gotta figure the cars this year will be faster.

Anyways, that was a brief overview of the rules. But I am sure they would pick a rotary if one entered, because who would expect a rotary to compete with the big block chevy's.

Anways........ anyone up for entering?

I don't think we have many low 9, high 8 second cars here. Wishful thinking I guess. That and it's with pump gas. Do you want us to blow up?

I was saying to win it, I remember reading last years article and there were plenty of people who were invited that ran tens and some even mid to low elevens... I was just saying that the winner will most likely have to be that low or lower.

I like how they specified: Only one engine per vehicle.

I assume they mean in parallel (twin engined car), and not serially (engine change).

I don't know if its possible for a rotary to win this. In a 2700lb car it would take roughly 900HP to run a low 9. Based on this calc.

I'm thinking a 3 rotor with a huge turbo at around 18-19lbs of pressure along with water injection. I guess you could go with something a lot lighter like an AE86 or an RX-3. And then theres always a custom 4 rotor turbo in some small chasis that could dominate.

So don't run a 2700 pound chassis. Simple.

Is the only rule that you have to use the 10 gal of 93? or is there a big list of them?

Check out www.hotrod.com I am sure the rules are on there. But there are alot of different rules. You must run on the gas they supply. You can not have tube frame cars/trucks. You can't have lift away bodies. As for 900 hp in a 2700 pound car. I would think that would be good for around low eights... 900 hp supras fun high eights.

I just thought it would be cool if someone competed.

My car isn't done, but it should be around 500 to the wheels and 2500 lbs when done. Maybe next year.

A 3 rotor powered R100, RX2, or RX3 would have a good shot.
