New to working on RX7

Just wondering what i can do to my RX that wouldnt require a lot of mechanical know how. I rarely have worked on my car myself and am wondering how to make it faster without doing a lot of work. I guess i am asking what are some of the easier mods to do to strart off with while i am learning more about these cars. I have worked on cars jsut some of this stuff (being new) looks pretty difficult. I just need to learn more about this stuff.

Check out www.robrobinette.com and http://www.scuderiaciriani.com these two site should keep you busy. They are both excellent site also. If you are looking for the service manual then take a look at www.iluvmyrx7.com. Assuming your car is a 93-95.

Easy:
K&N Cone Filter
Synthetic Transmission and Differential Oil
Change Engine Oil & Filter
Change Fuel Filter
Change / Tighten Belts
Change Spark Plugs & Wires
Change Coolant / Bleed System
Change Brake Fluid / Bleed System
Rotate Tires
Front Strut Tower Brace

Moderate:
Change Brake Pads (Take disks to local auto shop and have them do the resurfacing)
Aftermarket Springs and Shocks (Coil-overs are more difficult, and replacing the bushings is a real task)
Stainless Steel Brake Lines
Aftermarket Anti-Sway Bar
Replace Thermostat (Mazda brand only!)

Free online service manual here under How To's:
http://fc3s.org/

You can also Search the 2Gen forum for threads entitled "Free" mods, which will cover things like removing the air pump, gutting the cat, stripping the interior, etc.

If you are looking for something cheap and easy to install, I really like these Fumoto oil drain valves (F106, no nipple). It won't make your car any faster, but it sure makes changing the oil easier.

Ahmmm...headers??? Thats usually my first mod ..in conjuntution with high flow air filter. Then move down the line. All depends how hard is hard to you. Headers make the car sound better and emission standards are for non-rotaries in my opinion.

Ok i have a question. I just bought a wrecked RX7 race car. It has a aftermarket exhaust on it (4' tips on it) It had a high airflow filter on it (now full of rocks and dirt) appearantly the guy hit some rock or some ****. How difficult is it going to be to remove from the headers back and put it on my GXL? If i do that and everything else on my car is stock is it going to hurt anything?

I would put that in the "moderate" category, and you should try to put your car on a lift for that project. The hard part is the header bolts, which are usually frozen, and you can find a lot of posts on this forum of people breaking them off. Note that your stock exhaust will probably get ruined when you take it off, so be sure to take that into consideration if it makes a difference to you.

Look over that racing exhaust carefully and make sure that it will fit under your car, as race cars have a lot of components removed. Also, if it was a true track-only car, the chances of that exhaust supressing noise to tolerable street levels is pretty slim, and your chances of passing emissions are zero. Other than that, it will not hurt anything. TII car owners need to be careful with this because of boost and fuel issues, but you will not have this problem with your non-turbo car.
