how stroing are TII trannys?

well today i was driving the car and i was running it trough its paces... i get up to a light and i put it in 1st gear, let out the clutch..... nothing. same in 2nd. the gears feel empty... i am sure i broke the gears but what can i check? 3rd - reverse are fine.

what is the power rating of the TII tranny? I have am in the mid 300's rwhp at 10 psi.... what can i do to make the tranny stronger?

i have another TII tranny that i can use for parts but i think the tranny has a few too many miles on it... so i am gonna go for a rebuild.

how hard is this?

Sounds like the same thing that happened to me. The tranny in my 90 na went out, could not get 1st or second at all. Turned out to be the 1-2 fork had just worn out. I don't know anything about the power the tII tranny can stand up to though.

I second what rgordon1979 said about the fork, the T2 trans is a strong unit. If it can hold up to AJC-13B droping the clutch at 9k rpm with his 600hp 13b it's good enough for me

I'm guessing you're sure it's not the clutch (works fine in other gears?)

Also I've looked at the insides of FB transmissions (the shifter fork and such) and while it's incredibly difficult to do, there ARE things that can go wrong with it, things like locking it into 2 gears at once, etc.. it might just be that. Before you have it replaced, remove the shifter housing from it (the rear half of the transmission), and check to make sure things are ok in there.

OH.. and if you need a new tranny, I've got a TurboII one from a J-spec

The TII trans has significantly stronger internals/case than the NA but I believe the extension housing and shift rods/forks are the same (weak). I broke my NA's 1st/2nd fork with minimal effort 500 miles after a rebuild. Good thing my friend had a spare TII trans for me. Know anyone who wants my NA trans after I fix the fork? ALL new internals.

I have a turbo 2 tranny in my car, and the only problem i have ever encountered was sincro failure on 6 trannys so far, however i have never been able to break one yet... my car makes 400 foot pounds of torque, i was told that is what kills trannys. When i switched to shockproof gear oil ( redline makes it) i noticed the trannys lasted longer, and on noisy trannys it quieted them up !!! the viscosity is 50w-250w and the best part is it dosn't stink like gear oil usally does! If you need a low mileage turbo 2 tranny go to " used engines" and scroll to the bottom, there is always alot of them in stock @ www.rotaryshack.com

I have personally seen a nice 13B Rx3 full chassis run 8.8 @148mph with a factory turbo II tranny. They could take some abuse. Hey 680rwhp12A there is a Drag racing car down in the island running 8.27@162mph on a 1985 12A engine with turbo set up.. are you claiming 680 rwhp with a 12A? becasue if you are that is some wicked horsepower to run a very nice 7.90 or better on a full chassis drag car with a 12A..

No,No,no the Rx3 that used the turbo II tranny was a 13B. the other car that I'm talking about is a 1971 nissan 1200 car. the guy is using a full chassis car, the weight is 1840lbs and runs 8.2 all day with a 1985 12A. no Fd side housings, original 12A ones I personally saw the engine I was very impressed with that 12A. I looked at the intake manifold and it's the old school down draft webber manifold. Owner of the car told me he has made 550rwhp @28lbs of boost with that 12A on VP C16 race gas.

I have destroyed two output shafts like this

This is on 8500 rpm launches on 26x8.5" slicks.

2nd box did the following 60foot times 1.39, 1.37, 1.36, and then broke as you can see above

I'd like to think it can survive a 9 second pass in my car, time will tell

I had a good chat to Rohan from Guru when I caught up with him at Phillip Island. Unfortunately, their dog box uses completely different components, and their output shaft is not compatible. He seemed a bit surprised that I was breaking them like I have been.

I have found a place locally to custom make an output shaft, I think other parts will now start breaking but it is worth a try! We'll see how it goes.
