After 210k miles or so the head gasket died.

Very long story short, I have a lower miles S60 T5 engine in the car now (the late P2 T5 had basically the same engine as the P2 R but a little higher compression and an 81mm bore, so only 2.4l, but the stronger bores make it a legit 500whp capable engine unopend) the original S60R longblock, and another 2.4l longblock that I rebuilt because, hell, why not spend money.

Telling myself to not get a stock frame turbo upgrade and a tune so I can enjoy what 400whp feels like. Stock is about 230whp. That'd be properly nuts for a luxury car about the size of a new Civic.

nice! i do like those. there are tons of turbo stuffs for them too, the interesting ones are the billet wheels, it seems like you can have the lag of a smaller turbo and the flow of a bigger one.

Then tell Mazda to get their **** in gear and stop making cars that rust audibly.

The P1 S40(/V50/C30) was the same chassis as the Mazda 3. The Volvo was one of the (if not THE) best in the world for rustproofing, Mazda the worst.

That's about the only thing of value on this thread. Love the Rocket. A P1800 with a 13BREW would be pretty cool

I'll answer your stupid question with another question:

How long is a piece of rope?

I only really have experience with the renesis and turbo 13Bs. My newly rebuilt renesis went out after probably 30-40k miles. Immediately after buying it and driving it back home one of the belts snapped, the radiator fan stopped working I guess, and it overheated. It still ran fine for about 2 years afterwards, and my guess is lending it to a brother who didn't perform any maintenance was the cause of death as much as anything else. So not too great of an experience with Renesis engine reliability (previous owner had an engine failure and got it replaced under warranty before I purchased, and the rebuilt motor failed a couple years later).

For my FD engines, I wouldn't trust them past about 60-80k miles. I think you could get more out of them, honestly, but it seems to me that people don't put mileage on these cars as much as they would a commuter car, so you have just as many age related issues as anything else. I've never had apex seal issues, but my last car had coolant seal failure. FWIW, Fujita Engineering had a printout on their door bragging about their highest mileage rebuilt motor and it was at around 210,000km last I checked, so I wouldn't expect to get great mileage out of an FD motor, especially since everyone gets the itch to modify them.
