Question Rotary Engines.

Ok, so i was looking to buy an 1993 RX7 that i saw. but from what i've heard, rotary engines are usually only good up to 100k miles? but the one i'm looking to buy is at 60k. so i'm wondering if that is true...or isn't and could someone give me info and tips on buying a car with a rotary engine?

100k, what post did you hear that in? If it is well taken care of it should last atleast 200k. My S4 I baught with 158k on the original engine runs just fine even after sitting about 18 months.

Rx7's require more maintainance than your "average" sports-car, therefore a lot of them have been mistreated and not maintained properly. Each Rx7 will be different, because they have been cared for differently throughout their life-span. However, your "average" 3rd generation Rx7 will need to be thoroughly inspected if you're looking to purchase one with 100k+ miles.

Because of the added stress on everything due to the significantly higher power output of the 3rd generation Rx7, it's lifespan is typically much less than your average rotary... 100k miles is getting up there in life-span for both the engine and it's twin-turbo setup.

That being said, there are many 1st and 2nd generation Rx7's with 200k+ miles still on their original motor. It's the owner, not the motor.

Oh yeah, and for info--go to the 3rd generation specific section and check out the 'stickies' on the top of the page. There is all the info you could possibly need regarding what to look for when buying a 3rd gen.
