You can also left foot brake....That's what I do when I do a burnout at the track.... Just dump the clutch at 5-6krpm and left foot brake.....when you feel the tires are heat up, let off the brake and let the car move forward and let off the gas.....
it's easy and simple....
btw, do it in 2nd gear....

Three-pedaling it is hard at first, but eventually you burn out your rear brakes so they don't do very much anymore. In the first half of the year my car would creep forwards a bit while doing my burnout. Now that the season's over, the car stays put.

One nice thing about three-pedaling vs. a line-lock is that, if you have an open diff, it forces both rear wheels to turn at the same rate. Kinda like grabbing the E-brake a bit if you're stuck with one tire on ice.

edit: response to soul assassin: I shift in the box. I don't have the power yet to start my burnout in 2nd gear, so I rev the engine hard and dump the clutch as it goes up past 6k, then when the tires get slippery enough for it to hit 8400 I VERY quickly shift up to 2nd and hold it at 8400 for a lil' while. If one tire grabs while doing the burnout I let out immediately, so the other one isn't spinning at 140mph, which is not good for the tire or the diff. (check link in signatre for what it sounds like )

Line locks all the way, baby...I need all the brakes I can get, I sometimes find myself going scary fast on local roads, but usually the cops find me first...
Definitely shift in the box...

does shifting in the box and coming outi n 3rd gear make that much difference for drag radials though? i figured it was geared more towards slicks.

Drag radials do not need to be heated up much as much, but I like to use some VHT Trackbite, and burning them good ensures proper distribution...

3rd gear? I dunno about doing burnouts in 3rd. Generally people I've talked to try to get the tires going at about 70mph.

sure...it is a solenoid for front brakes: step on brakes, press line lock button, let go of brakes, as long as you hold down the button, the front brakes will be engaged, leaving the rears free to spin without moving the car...
