help with motor blowing again!!!
Soul's car blew another apex seal on the dyno today. Last time the rear seal let go at 1.4 boost. Rebuilt mtr into full bridge and added msd 6a's because it looked like detenation caused the first seal to go. Today on the dyno at 1.3 the front seal let go. The a/f stayed around 11.5 and there was no spikes in the duty cycle of injectors, egt nothing. It let go at about 6300rpm. Can't find anything obvious and don't want to put another mtr in as it will probably do the same. He is suppossed to put the car in the box on wed. to ship to states. I have never messed with rotaries but could the coils be weak? By the way it picked 53hp from partial to full. Up from 381rwhp to 434rwhp at .8 boost

when you rebuilt the motor did you use all new apex seals or recycle the ones on the front rotor?
also can we check out your dyno chart runing .8 or .9 bar
I would like to see how soon and how much torq a full bp turbo makes
and can you post your old chart also? cuase I would like to see how it compairs to half bp
Thanks
Tony

no promises on the dyno sheet i have very limited acess to computers right now seeing that i am moving i will put it up when i get a chance though
the difference was about 53 whp from half bridge to full bridge at low boost
also on the parts everything was new except the stationary gears

all parameters were well within limits, there is no reason whatsoever why it should have blown, hte maps are perfect, so that is why we are leaning towards a ignition problem

How are the plugs looking? All have a nice tan colour to them?
Flowed the injectors to make sure they are okay?
I doubbt an ignition issue caused both engines to pop unless they were repeatadly fired onto the tip of the apex.

Banned. I got OWNED!!!
How much ignition advance are you running at WOT?
And what type of fuel are you using as well, I realy think that 11.5:1 depending on the fuel is not enough (rich) for that power level on moderate fuel.
There are a few factors to consider & I could be totaly wrong as to the reason for your particular situation, but in general what you have experienced is typical of the increase in dynamic compression associated with "heavier porting" causing the earlier onset of detonation, not because of a lack of ignition but due to exceeding the threshold of the type of fuel you are using and the settings of the engine in relation to the fuel and porting.
I have when running at 590BHP insisted on running 12 to 15 deg of advance with a/f ratio of 11.0:1 without water injection and 11.6:1 with water injection. Also you need to take into accout that there are inaccuracies in testing equipment as well, when you are on the edge of your system this can mean the difference between reliability and engine failure.
I hope you get it sorted.
PS: as a side note, For a full ported engine, regardless of charge temp I would run no more than 12 deg of advance, Racing Beat recommend the same (they have alot of experience with PP turbos)
