Getting windshield fluid/methanol in CA
Just spent the weekend working on my AI system install. Tonight I sat down at the computer to order some cheap winter windshield fluid only to find nobody wanted to ship to CA (can't find it in stores here because it's not cold enough). I was scratching my head at all the vague "can't ship to your location" notices until eventually one seller specifically said they couldn't ship to CA because of Prop 65.
*******. California.
Californians, how do you get your bug juice? Don't say "move," it's not funny anymore.

If it's not cold enough to worry about your AI system freezing in the car, you could always just run straight water. I made 540whp at 26psi on pump gas and an AEM AI kit with straight water. It'll make a bit less power than water/meth, but you can crank the boost.

The thing is, it actually IS told enough to freeze water in the lines, it's just not cold enough to warrant selling the "good" -20 juice. Who knows, maybe I'll find that CA is using some methanol alternative now for the low temp stuff that's bad for injecting into your system. That way you can either have DI and will freeze, or stuff that won't freeze but that is no good to inject!

I just called Auto Zone to see if they could order it and the guy said that ever since a few years ago they can't order it anymore and he doesn't know why. He said that if you visit a store close to where it gets cold (like towards the Sierras) you can still find it in stores.
The amount effort that must go into those logistics is impressive. Taxpayer money at work...
Maybe this holiday season I will cruise up the hill a bit from my parents and see if I can find some...
