Dual Intake Question

Does anyone know what the added benefit is of using a dual cold air-intake over a single intake kit is? Also, can anyone point me to the manufacturers of such kits for FD's and/or FC's?

Apexi, HKS, Pettit (K&N), M2, and a couple other make dual filter intakes. The do this so that both turbos have their own filter element. These are all available for the FD, I don't know of any available for the FC.

In order to have a dual cold air intake that's effective you'd most likely need another throttle body (dual throttle bodies). The engine is only gonna suck in as much air as the throttle body can, so in order to "increase" the flow of air into the engine you need to get 1)a bigger throttle body or 2)another throttle body. Obviously the 1st option is more cost effective.

If the air filter is big enough then I don't see a benefit in running two of them. I think most manufacturers use two filters because it's easier.

Normally, the dual intake (at least on my '93 FD) is an intake for each turbo,(primary and secondary) I have the A'pexi Dual Intake and it is sucking more air in then my exhuast can put out at WOT. If you have the Workshop Service Repair Manual it is shown on the postive crankcase ventilation diagram (page F-124) and on the sequential twin turbo diagram ( pagef-84)

Did you get the kit from Pettit with the filters being about 5cm from the turbos? I'm looking into different intakes and that one looks pretty good but I would think that the heat from the unshielded turbos would kill your intake temps. The stock air box mod looks like it could be pretty effective but the look of an FD under the hood stock leaves something to be desired. I want to get rid of as much of that plastic as possible. An help you can toss my way would be very helpfull.
