Boost prepping an Edelbrock.

Does anyone here know anything about boost prepping a new Edelbrock Performer series carb? I so far haven't been able to find anything online about the subject. I would like to do a custom supercharger setup on my 6 port 13B using a centrifugal supercharger and an intercooler and I already picked up this carb. I don't like holley's, and the downdraft and sidedraft 2 barrels are too hard to come by and get parts for. Edelbrock is the best choice IMO. Anyway, anyone have experience with this? Any info would help.

Did you get that edelbrock to run right on your rotary? I tried one once and couldnt get it to idle, I thought because of so many vac operated parts?

i got it to run pretty good , emissions equipment was removed and blocked off . and i also used a 1/2" open spacer between the carb and manifold .

idle is pretty solid on mine (now my cousins car) maybe you had a vacuum leak , or maybe you just need to use on open spacer between the carb and manifold . There were a few threads on using a carter aka edelbrock carb on a rotary . there was a thread by peejay sp? and rotoiler sp ? that were helpful .

oh yeah its N/A not turbo , we havent gotten around to that yet .

I didnt have any vac leaks, I just had to keep the idle around 2000 or so. The edelbrock I was using (500cfm) had more butterflies than the regular ones that control the throttle. I dont know if all edelbrocks are similar? This one had a second set of butterflies above the throttle one, which made me believe I had to up the idle to allow the vac to open the second set of butterflies, they had a wieght to balance the butterflies.

That is interesting about your 1" open spacer. I had tried one a couple of years ago on my Holley and it made it run really bad? I later found out the carb must be tuned for an open spacer. Maybe the Edelbrock is set up for the open spacer? Have you tried running it with out the spacer? Is this engine ported?

i think you might be talking about the choke , wich did not effect anything on mine . Well the thing with the open spacer is that that carb is designed to run on a v8 . i read somewhere that the vacuum pulses are not strong enough individually from the intake runner to the carb barrel for the carb to work properly . Im yousing a racing beat manifold wich is a squarebore flange to match the squarebore style edelbrock carb . the open flange will combines the 4 bores to creat a stronger vacuum pulse similar to the engine to the carb was designed to be used on . another thing you can do is drill the counterweight on the secondaries to allow them to open according to the fuel needs of a rotary engine . Im not a carb expert so my terminology and explanations might not be %100 percent accurate . but if you search the forum for "carter" or "edelbrock" you will find where i got this information from . I think the information came from the members peejay , sanspistons , and rototiler1 . . never ran it without the spacers b/c of the weak vacuum pulse issue that i was aware about before i installed it . and no the engine is not ported .

ps. i got the spacer idea from jeff20b not peejay , i can't remember what i learned from peejay . Joining this forum is the best thing you can do ........ before or after buying a rotoary powered vehicle .

The one esential thing is to use in a carb with boost is crush proof foam floats.

I had and Edelbrock/Carter carb on my car for a while. It would run well for a while and would loose its tune over time. What happens is the metering rods cause problems. If you are lucky all they do is oval out your jets and make you go rich. Sometime the rods snap off and are left in the jet set for cruise. Runs fine until you go to WOT when you get no enrichment. They also have long shallow float bowls that allow fuel to slosh away from the jets, especially on lefts. They don't like being turned sideways. Holleys are a little better I must say. At least they can take a turn and don't go out of tune (broken power valve aside, damn misfire).

If you don't want any leaks, put it in a carb enclosure like one of these:
