After having much fun at the track saturday I broke a seal here and there and put a nice dent in my rear rotor. The rotor isn't cut/scraped or anything it just has a nice dent in it from detonation. Anyways I know that it's going to lower the compression a bit but has anyone ever re-used one of these suckers or will I have a weeble wobble rotor?

If you pull the whole thing apart to re-build it why not just replace it? I imagine a used rotor wouldnt be too expensive to find, especially after all the other gaskets and seals you still need to buy any ways.

 

If you could put the same size dent in the same place on each side of the rotor it would be balanced again

They are right, don't use it unless you make a clock out of it or something.

 

Balance shouldn't be THAT far off, what would worry me would be the compression inconsistencies from the dented face vs. the non dented faces, and when it dented the face what did it do to the rest of the rotor - did it pull the sides in, did it pull the apex slot opened more?

I'd scrap it, or make a pretty little doorstop out of it.

 

I'll give you $10 for it Eric....if you want to get rid of it.

I have a dented rotor that I am going to make into a clock. I bought a replacement (used) rotor in near perfect condition which will take its place in the engine. But my car is a (financially speaking) lowly S4 NA FC, he he he.

 

I think you should put it back into the rebuild, just to answer this question once and for all.

i too would scrap it. but peejay, the placement of the dent would actualy cause the chance for compression inconsistencies no? if it was not in the dish... would it change? i dont think it would.

Yeah, this whole dented rotor thing threw me off. I'm now on the lookout for a nice used rotor. Anyone know how much mazda charged for a rotor?

 

Doesn't matter where it is. Increased "clearance volume" (or the rotary equivalent) means decresed compression ratio, no matter where it is.

 

If you're buying new from Mazda you better buy a set as they have increased the side clearance for higher boost & RPM applications.
