smoked by a 300zx

on the way home saturday night, came up on a nice 300zx. it had a clean body kit and just all around looked nice, but it did have stickers of brand names all down the door.

so i gently cruise past him, looking over as if to say "nice car". he passes the car next to him and came parallel with me, then slowed down significantly. catching his drift, i do the same.

we get pretty even, so i honk 3 times, and we're off. i dont have too much experience in highway pulls, as i am so much faster than anyone in our little car group, we dont often race. i shouldve been in 2nd, because i ended up going WOT in thrid, right before transition to the secondary(im seq) at about 4100rpm.

we're dead even for maybe 2 seconds, then he just starts to walk away. im thinking, "ah, im just waiting for my seconday to be full on"....so...my secondary came and went...., and i grabed 4th and went wide open for another few seconds.

when it was all said and done he had pulled maybe 4 cars on me!

so i came along side and gave him a thumbs up, and he did the same. my first loss in the 7!

i guess when you're faster than anything you normally come up against, you're a little cocky, lol. learned my lesson. now its time for a few more bolt-ons and a tune! hehehe. Currently intake,DP,PFC, and barely over 10psi

oh, and thanks adamc for keeping this thing open.

Nope! I don't believe it. All I hear is "The 7 can't lose!!"
Seriously though, the z's can be pretty quick, especially if you have been cocky! You'll get him next time.

i couldnt really ask him anything. we were on what might as well have been an interstate, and he kept going after we reached our exit.

a little more info. He obvisouly had considerable things done to the car, given the amount of stickers down the door! ha. and i had a passenger, he did not.

i went out for some test/tuning tonight, and adjusted my gain settings on my blitz EBC.......whoa.....i turned 'em down, and man! what a difference. the car is decidedly quicker just from adjusting the gain.

honestly....if we lined up again, with me in the right gear, and my car faster now.......would i have won....eh, probably not! but its still fun!

Nice death.

There's a 91 300ZX TT around here making 411 rwhp that I'd love to run.

Really quick...until you have to slow them down and go around a corner.

Cool story, though; and next time, take him trough a few curves.

Glad I could be of some help . You are very welcome!!

It's good that you learned from this. Next time you will be better prepared. Some of those Z's are pretty fast. No disgrace in losing to a fast car. It's all for fun anyway!!!

Although I am not turbocharged....my large SP 48 IDA fed Rx2 kept even with a greddy twin kit equipped 350Z (stock internals). They are quick, but just not that fast. You should have pulled him.

I'm actually storta starting to like the new Z's. With the long nose front bumper, they look clean. Too many G35's around now....almost like a 35K Accord.

The stock motor "bolt-on" kits add only around 60-80HP flywheel....they usually only run aroun 5-6lbs. boost I believe. Plus, with them shifiting at 5500-6000, I'm just starting to sing!!!

I raced a n/a 300zx in my 88 t2 with rb rev2, rb light weight flywheel, stock boost, and rtek 1.5 and lost from a stop light since i didnt lauch and beat him from a around 60mph roll and lost but was gaining on him from a 40mph roll had to stop because of traffic he had a half a car and was still gaining. We met up at the next light and said he had cams exhaust and proabably some more stuff. It sounded sick but still was shocked how well it could hang with my t2.

Nice death. Those TTZs are really fast. Has gobs of torque and pull. Sounds like he just backed up his sticker collection. You'll get him next time.

my buddy has a really nice 300zx tt. holy ****.. once they hit 2nd they are gone. rotaries cant compete with all that low end power the vg30dett has. not to mention they redline at like 7grand, like the s4. iv racing my na s4 against my GF's 300zx 2+2 and it walks on me. they are pretty impressive. i just like how unique the rx7 is compared to any other car. and the FD just looks ****** sweet
