Dan I'm not saying you lied, and I don't think people are saying you lied either.
It is just that some people believed the race against Rx8 wasn't a total race.
I drive an 8, and there is no way this car is giving out 190hp to the wheels, unless it's a auto.
My stock silver was dynoed at 182 whp
Either the guy was puttin GG just to get laugh at you
or the race wasn't legit

Doesn't the rx8 make peak hp/torque at close to redline. Perhaps the driver was shifting much earlier (like at 6k).

I believe the story. The other driver was probably incompetent. I test drove a 6speed rx8, and imo it is slow. It takes forever to rev, and it feels like my mom's nissan sentra with a 9k red line. It would probably take a pretty good driver to race it well. *I'm not hating on the rx8, just making a honest observation. Its one of the reasons why I chose to buy a FD instead.

Dude i believe you. By the sounds of it your 7 would be good for a mid to low 14 quater mile

If it was a stock Rx8 your story sounds right to me

I believe you Dan!

When I had my ported 79 stock carbed 12A w/headers back in 1988, I ran all day with Z28's , Trans Ams and a Corvette one time...never dynoed it but it was quick till I wore it out...

so I believe it could be true. 8's arent that fast. nice but not fast

HP to weight ratio doesn't determine how fast a car is, just an estimate. People seem to forget that the RX-8 comes from the factory with all the goodies! Close Ratio 6-speed tranny, carbon fiber driveshaft, torsen LSD, low profile Bridgestone Potenza tires, etc.

I'm not calling you a liar, but I don't believe that this kill is what everyone is making it out to be. As previously mentioned, there are many factors. The driver could've just been farting around or still breaking in the engine, it could've been an auto, could've forgotten -- or didn't want -- to turn off DSC and/or TCS, or the driver could've just sucked (though it would be hard to screw up). Or a combination of the above could lead to a very slow run from an RX-8.

In the end, who cares about drag racing? These cars were built for the twisties, man!

Just for the record, the RX8 weighs in at 2950 lbs and its peak HP is at 8500 rpm on the 6 speed. I've driven the auto and the manual and there is a HUGE difference between the two. Not only is the auto slower off the line, but having only four tall gears makes acceleration even slower. Once again, not saying you're lying or anything but the 8 driver was probably driving an auto 8 or had DSC turned on. I own the 6 speed and when shifting properly, I've managed to chirp the tires in 2nd and 3rd.

While everyone keeps bashing on the rx8, I got a story for you. I was driving an auto rx-8 (yes auto) and stayed an even 1 car behind in a race with a turbocharged talon 95 believe with a nice fat intercooler in the front by the time we were shtuting down. And he launched I couldn't, he got a huge jump on me but coem the 100mph mark i started to pull because the rx8s do one thing right...high end, we shut down at around 110 which is when i couldn't gain anymore, nor and we just stayed as it was me behind by 1 car.

I raced a bunch of cars in that rx8 and I didnt once lose on a rolling start highway race, i raced a bmw 745li, a mercedes slk 320, camaro z28, and a few others that escape my memory. And no I can't prove it, if you want to preach BS go for it, have your fun, I know what they are capable of, high end they are pretty sweet cars.
