Real quick:
Because of all the negative posts, I started to doubt myself. I decided to do a little research.
RX-8 owners are averaging around 190hp at the wheels in stock form. Curb weight is 3000 pounds.
My car dynoed at 158whp last weekend. I'm estimating my car weighs around 2500 pounds.
Figuring the hp per pound for each vehicle, the numbers are almost equal:
My RX-7: 15.82 pounds per hp
RX-8: 15.78 pounds per hp
Looking at those figures, and then thinking about other factors: amount of gas in tank, cargo in vehicle, weight of driver, tire pressures, and finally, driver skill, I think it's VERY easy to believe that my story.

the rx8 isnt 3000 lbs. More like 2700...
Aslo the dyno numbers on an rx8 arent actual. when the front wheels arent in motion the car will retard itself. Thats why they dyno so low. (or so mazda says)
fact is, an rx8 runs mid 14's in every magazine. A carbbed 12a 1st gen runs 16+'s. I have never seen a stock carbbed 12a run anything faster than a 16 at the track. Hell my old gsl-se wouldnt stand a chance against an rx8... and that was a FI 13b, in the same car you have.
did you think of those figures too? not to be a dick ... i have a few kills people say i didnt make too. So i know how it goes. And i dont think youre making it up or anything, i just dont think he was giving it all it had.

I got the curb weight from two sources. Road and Track Magazine puts the curb weight of the RX-8 at exactly 3000lbs, and Judge Ito over on the RX-8 forum Weighed his car with him in it at the track. The scale for his car said 3250. He also said in his post that he weighs 250lbs... Hmm... That means his car by itself weighed 3000 pounds...
As far as quarter mile times on a stock port carbed 12a, I ran at Capitol Raceway back in October, before I blew my motor. Mods at the time were: Stock tuned carb, air cleaner, Racing Beat header and Presilencer, Mindtrain exhaust, and no cats. The car ran 15.6-15.8 all day long.
You don't think that a race between two cars with almost identical power/weight ratios comes down to the driver?

BTW, here's a pix of my ancient modded NIKKI carb. Now look at your stock NIKKI and tell me which one will flow better.
But if you have this, then I will say, right on!! driving skills count.
Before you start wit your blah blah blah, I dont give BS but facts. Now that I showed you my 80's set up and current, let me see yours.

Here’s the issue… 12-A street port with a stock carb killing a RX-8.
I will say it again, its BS.

I just don't understand how someone can keep "crying" bs when the hp to weight ratio is so close. Someone obviously doesn't know very much about the potential of a stock carb properly tuned on a good engine with a good exhaust. When someone says "stock" carb, it just means that it is the Nikki that came on the car. It doesn't mean it hasn't been touched or tuned. Proper carb tuning makes a huge difference.
FWIW: Stop by the RX-8 forum and look at what most people do in the 1/4 mile. Most are not in the mid 14's but rather the mid 15's. It doesn't matter what a magazine says if the owners can't do it.

Here's what we can do...Im not going to drive where ever you are.. because its impossible.... But, if you can find anyone near SOCAL with a 12-A or 13-B street port with a STOCK 12-A carb.., again, you can do all of the tuning crap on a stock carb....I WILL RACE YOU ANY TIME, ANY DAY AND ANY WHERE (TRACK OR STREET0. .....

I am an 8 owner and I personally believe Lt. Dan. First off it seems most 8 owners I come across don't really run hard from the stop light, so the owner may have been not all that serious. Second the car is not all that fast, I think a good driver should beat Lt. Dan (with his current setup), but I don't see why he would lie about a win against an 8. Hell it might have been an auto with its big 165 rwhp.

this has to be a joke!A streetport 12a with a stock carb is not going to run 14.5 in a 1/4.That guy was ***** -footing his new ride.My 12a street port with Mikuni exhaust, blah blah won't even break into 14's with that carb. Not trying to diss but if i'm wrong I should've never took off the stock carb.I will say Mikuni's suck compared to dual webers d.c.o.e. carbs or any weber but come on.I almost outran a Cobra only because he was spinning so bad.Rambling sorry
