That car looks really familiar. Any idea what the racing history of it is? Seems like I've got an autographed photo or something or it...

Benny,
I think I remember that car. I saw it race at Del Mar with it's sister cars during the IMSA days. I might actually have a pic or two. Was the car wearing 2nd or 1st gen bodywork?

If I remember correctly, this car was not a factory race car.

you are on the money this is the 2sd car that ran at delmar.
I do not have any good photos and would love some.
It was the back up car and only ran a few rcaes. It's pretty clean and unused car.

Benny, good luck with the new car. Glad you finaly found something. Looks like a ton-o-fun. Where are you planning to race it? Did you know that the SCCA just allowed PPort 13b's in GT2?

Unfortunately the SCCA will not accept this body in GT2. I check the track record at willow spring and the GTU is 6 second faster than the GT2 SCCA not bad !!

And yes the car was missing engine tranny and rear upright.

Thx

Benny,
Unfortunately, I did find any pics, but I did find information on the #88 car, as raced at Del Mar.

In 1989 and 1990, The Corna Light Beer # 88 car was raced by Mike Henderson, from El Cajon, Ca.

In 1991 The Beach Boys Racing / Corna Lite # 88 car was raced by Bob Franham, from Venice, Ca.

--on it's sister car, the #78 then #72 car:

In 1989 and 1990, The Corna Extra Beer # 78 car was raced by John Daley, from San Diego, Ca.

In 1991 The Beach Boys Racing / Corna Extra Beer # 72 car was raced by Gary Blehl, from Venice, Ca.

I hope this information helps some.

btw, and unfortunately, these privateers were overwhlemed by the Mazda (Rotary) MX-6, Nissan 240, and Dodge Dayotna, GTU factory efforts.

Thanks Benny. I'd like to see it again.

I've actually have met both you and Tim. I crew for the Mariah Motorsports FROG E-Prod team. I've spoken to you guys at Willow Springs several times.

I'm in North Hollywood, close to Tim.

PM with your # and we'll get it together.

Contact Rob Golden at Pineapple Racing. (503) 233-3878. He can make a structural aluminum dry sump oil pan cover, using plans supplied to him by Jim Downing. I have some pictures of one he made previously, if you want me to email something to you. He would also probably have a spare dry sump cover or two. Last time I looked he had both factory and custom fabricated ones. Rob's a good resource for this stuff because he used to do all the motors for Bud Reichard's championship winning GT-2.
