Sevens Only Race Cars

i just opened up the newest Sport Compact Car magazine and saw a short article on Sevens Only. i am not too sure how new they are or if this is old information, but it is new to me and i felt it was worth sharing.

there is a shop in California that builds tube framed RX-7s with 12a peripheral ported rotary engines with weber carburetor and manifold. the curb weight is a whopping 1795 pounds! they are built specifically for the SCCA GT-2 class and meets Super Touring 2 requirements. it comes with a Jerico 4-speed H-pattern dogbox and comes from the factory on Toyo RA-1's and with Outlaw 3700 series four piston calipers.

if anyone has a spare $39,900 for the 265hp/1795lb option or $44,900 for the 340hp/1690lbs option i wouldnt say it would be a bad idea at all.

(the picture is taken with my camera phone. i apologize for the bad quality. you can see more at the website.)

if i had the money, i would love to just take the fiberglass and tube body and swap everything i have into it. looks like so much fun! it would give the Exige 240S (my attainable dream car, other then my RX-7 when its finished) a run for its money with a fraction of the price.

I bought one of their cars at the end of last year and have been thrilled with it. Now I just have to work on my driving (it's my rookie season).

what exactly does it come with (apart from what the website lists)? which one did you go with? the 265 or 340?

im going to give them a call to find out more information on what they offer tomorrow.

I don't think that I have any of the interior or engine bay... but I had some friends visit at the last race and they may have something. I'll have to get back to you on that.

Tom and Bette can give you better detail on exactly what comes with it. Basically, it's ready to race and is built to SCCA / NASA spec. Here are some things on the options list that you'll probably want:
Seat Upgrade
2 EGT gauges
Spare wheels
Steering wheel quick release
Sealed battery
Oil cooler upgrade
Engine filtration system
Transmission cooler (if you run enduros)
Interior rearview mirror
Cool suit system (it gets really hot in the car)

I bought mine to run in their series here on the west coast. If I were buying it to run in GT2 or ST2 I would get it with a 13b and put slicks on it. The guy in the yellow car in the video took 3rd at NASA nationals last year with a series spec car (12a) running slicks. It was a bit low on torque but handled better than most of the other cars. I think the whole series will be moving to 13b in a year or two.

I saw a bunch of those at the NASA race at Buttonwillow this weekend. Damn nice cars. Sounds very nice for a P-Port motor. Much more pleasant than some of the PT RX8s.

It is a well built chassis and the body is very nice. I am glad they finally added some pure race parts like the trans and brakes. Sevens only is also located in the paddock area at Buttonwillow, so repairs and parts are right there when you need them. if you have the money it is a good package.

Thanks! I pulled a several second lead and thought I had it wrapped up but those guys just move through traffic so much better than I do. I was shocked when they caught up and proceeded to make several mistakes while staring in my rearview mirrors. Anyway, they're a great group of guys to race with and I'm proud to even be in the running.
