On that note, maybe a bolt in cage is all you need or want, especially if you want to keep the interior and it is not primarily a track car.

There is actually an extenuating circumstance with the miatas. There is a double hump "style" bar that has raised some questions about this very topic. Some people believe that they have caused more injuries because they fold over onto the driver during a roll-over. They don't have any forward or rear bracing.
Be safe out there.
I have seen these hoops fail, not in a miata, but in an older style Star Mzda (only had one hoop vs. double ex: | vs. |\ ). The car flipped right in front of me due to another driver t-boning him after the turn in. He landed right on the topside and the hoop folded. The only reason the driver was not killed or very seriously injured was that he was only like 5'2" or something. The hoop still had him pinned in the car though. We have a fleet of 22+ Star Mazdas, 1/3 of which are the older chassis. After that, we doubled up all the hoops on the older cars to prevent this from happening again. Heavier car like a miata relying on those hoops is no good. They sure look good though In a convertible, you might be frucked either way.

uh.

If you run 10 second quarters, I'm seriously impressed

Are bolt in cages legal for 10 second 1/4?

Last years rules state that 10 sec cars at a minimum require bolt in cages to have a 6 x 6 x 1/8 inch plate welded to the floor where the cage bolts to it to help try eliminate any punch through worries. The only reason I know this is GNX7 bought my cage and wanted to make sure it was all good for his 10 sec RX.

I have a question I plan on doing club solo1 days and I need a cage that meets SCCA specs.
The autopower cage meets SCCA specs but I find the rear mounting position of it to be very poorly designed, such that it mounts on to the rear tower bar.
The other cage which I prefer is the JEGS cage which has the mounts not on the rear towers but actually on the floor of the rear. But the problem with Jegs is that it doesn't state that it meets SCCA spec, instead it is meets NHRA as a drag racing use cage.
My question is can I use the Jegs for SCCA? The design is very similar but I don't know why it does not meet the specs.
