Need to buy a race seat now
I'm at the point where I need to plan for my seat mounts so I'm going to pick up my seat.
I'm 6'4" and not bulky, 34" waist at the most. I am having trouble finding a seat where the harness holes are high enough. I've tried the Sparco Pista and ARS and both fit pretty well but the harness holes are a little low unless I remove the butt cushioning, which isn't comfortable.
I know Sparco makes some bigger seats but they are also wider too, what I need is a tall narrow seat.. anyone have any suggestions?
Cheers,
Carl

The back brace just ties it to the cross bar in the main hoop right?
I thought about Kirkeys, I had a vintage bucket in my cobra and loved it.
How high are the harness holes from the base of the seat?

Those are the intermediate road race seat with the air mesh cover. You will need back braces (as you now need with all seats). They are almost visible in this picture. Excuse the car, it is a work in progress...
One more just for good measure...

Yup! I figured if you can't beat them join them. So much ignorance out there and people painting Hitler moustaches on our nation's president etc. I find that level of ignorance offensive, so I counter it with humor.

Some of the really tall guys have them custom made. Otherwise the belts don't feed through at the proper, safe height. Which probably means you will fail tech.
The aluminum seat makers can probably a custom seat easier than the composite seat makers. Give the companies or your local seat supplier a phone call and see if they have any special order seats for you tall guys.

I'm 6'2" and use the Sparco Evo 2 Plus. You can see the Sparco seat specs here. I'd recommend sitting in as many seats as you can find. As Gracer7 mentioned the location of the openings for the shoulder harness relative to top of your shoulders is very important for a proper fit.
I'll check with SHPNOUT to see which seat he uses, as he's closer to 6'4" and pretty narrow.
Best,
Guy

It would be as well. Just saying if you are going to buy a seat, do it once, and do it right. Get one that's going to protect what matters most.
Racetech has a 4009 that is 60mm taller than normal for taller people. http://www.racetechseatsna.com/produ...s/RT9009HR.php

Thanks for all the tips guys. I need to find a local shop that carries different brands, only sat in OMP seats so far. I'll check out the Cobra seats too.
To be clear, a seat does not need to be SFI certified if it has a back brace correct?

+1 for the kirkey!
I'm 6'4" 240lbs and haven't failed tech due to improper seat/belt placement. Can't say that I have really thought about the placement of the belts too much either!
I should probably look into that!

A seatback support must be made to hold the seat from going back in the event of a
crash. A plate should be used to distribute the load. No bolts, corners, or sharp objects
should be placed in such a manner that could lead to a possible puncture of the driver in
a high impact crash. Proper design and installation is crucial to safety and it is
recommended that the driver employ the services of a professional race car builder for
this, as well as all other vehicle safety items. An exception may be made for those seats
homologated to, and mounted in accordance with, FIA 8855-1999 or 8862-2009
standards. Those seats that qualify for the aforementioned exception must conform to
the entire FIA 8855-1999 or 8862-2009 set of regulations, as applicable. This includes a
mandatory seat replacement, or use of a seat back brace, for any seat more than five (5)
years old (8899-1999) or more than ten (10) years old (8862-2009). Please reference
the FIA regulations. http://www.fia.com/
SCCA:
The driver’s seat shall be a one-piece bucket-type seat and shall be
securely mounted. The back of the seat shall be firmly attached to the
main roll hoop, or its cross bracing, so as to provide aft and lateral support.
Seats homologated to and mounted in accordance with FIA standard
8855-1999 or FIA Standard 8862-2009 or higher need not have
the seat back attached to the roll structure. The homologation labels
must be visible. Seat supports shall be of the type listed on FIA technical
list No.12 (lateral, bottom, etc). Passenger seat back–if a folding
seat, it shall be securely bolted or strapped in place.
Mounting structures for racing seats may attach to the floor, cage
and or center tunnel. Seat mounting points forward of the main hoop,
between the center line of the car and the driver’s side door bar and
rearward of the front edge of the seat bottom are not considered cage
attachment points in classes with limitations on the number of attachments.
A system of head rest to prevent whiplash and rebound, and also to prevent
the driver’s head from striking the underside of the main hoop shall
be installed on all vehicles. Racing seats with integral headrests satisfy
this requirement.
The head rest on non-integral seats shall have a minimum area of 36
square inches and be padded with a minimum of one inch thick padding.
It is strongly recommended that padding meet SFI spec 45.2 or FIA
Sports Car Head Rest Material. The head rest shall be capable of withstanding a force of two-hundred (200) lbs. in a rearward direction. The
head rest support shall be such that it continues rearward or upward
from the top edge in a way that the driver’s helmet can not hook over
the pad.

#855 (CRB) Mandatory seat back braces for all seats
In 9.3.41, delete: “Seats homologated to and mounted in accordance with FIA standard 8855-1999 or FIA Standard 8862-
2009 or higher need not have the seat back attached to the roll structure. The homologation labels must be visible.” [The
CRB has been made aware of deficiencies in mounting of FIA homologated seats that would be mitigated by the addition
of a seat back brace.]

Thanks for clearing that up buddy. I need to be less lazy and go back and look at the rules. I need to look at the rules for the harnesses as well as thats what is going to limit me to certain seats.
I sat in a Sparco Sprint at lunch, holes are too low.

Try looking into the Bride Zeta 3 type L. Im 6'3" tall and 200 ibs with an athletic build and this seat fits really nice. the harness holes seem to be high enough to not be a problem and this is an FIA seat and the one ill be using for drifting.
