I'm totally with Fritz on this one. GT3 is amazing. I've ridden in it driven by a family friend who is the owner as well as a PCA instructor of 14 years. The thing is simply amazing. Everything on it is tuned so well that you'd be an absolute idiot to mess with prosche' setup. The only things i'd consicer changing are adding some R Comps and getting the factory race seats and the euro option cage. The car is extremely impressive and the ride quality is to die for.

a significant chunck of change. But weather you're willing to admit it or not, The FD will have to be simply insane and an all out track car to beat the gt3. Yet the gt3 can still be daily driven.

to and from the track is still not the same as driving to work in traffic everyday. There's just something about a car that you can buy and don't need to change anything about it.

If your talking about cars running around a track or how those cars can do it faster your not hijacking your just embellishing on what could otherwise quite possibly become another boring thread

Yes, that car was just as fast as the two GT2s that were there... and the only car that could keep up with them.

My current track car has the rx6 turbo with similar safety, brake, susp/wheel, and cooling upgrades as Foko's old car.

such a fun track setup, a ton of grip (especially with good rubber) and plenty of power.
spec miata is a good way to go if you want to do real wheel-to-wheel racing.

I know those suckers pretty well (as does my younger brother), hopefully if i'm ever free i cna help you out on that one as well" I have my mechanic Bret at RP to blame for that move. He let me sample one of his rental cars with the option to buy and I fell hook line and sinker. Seriously though I think it should be lots of fun and will really improve my driving skills. I also have plans to do some form of racing with the FD but that's still down the road a bit.

I have had "slow" Spec Miata's pass me on the outside while at the track. Granted my car is basically a street car but I was still suprised with how quickly they get around the course. They really mix it up during the races too.

I was at Laguna Seca running that same day you were. I was in a silver FD. There were two silver FDs that day... mine was the one without a spoiler that was passing the other FDs in the intermediate group
I think I remember meeting you and the previous owner of that car. My friend and I were watching how late people were braking into turn 2 and you guys were usually braking even a tad later than the GT2s.

Good choice on the spec miata. A 1992 miata is my usualy daily driver and autocross car. I take it to track days also once in a while and usualy let me friends drive it while I drive my FD. I drive it like I stole it on the street and get 24 MPG on regular gas and even get 18MPG on the racetrack! 160K miles and ZERO problems just rountine maintenance. I just threw on some Koni shock and Porterfield brake pads and it's flawless on the street or the track. Sure it's not as fast at the FD but I think I actually get around town even faster in it caues it's so nimble with good visibility with the top down. I honestly think I'd sell the FD before my Miata.
But I suppose I should save this for Miata.net

well that was probably fabian (previous owner) driving, he is a pretty skilled driver, im just a average driver trying to become skilled :-) (heheheh)
he has the porche 993 turbo 'Big Reds' in the front and teh jspec RS/RZ rears, so the car can brake HARD when you want it to, and there is no such thing as fade on this car either :-)

you can see them lined up in the grid (right side and positioned ahead of me ) during the in car cam shot, and a very quick shot of one that dove in front of me out of a right turn and I'm circling around his bumper to blow by him on the outside.

Nice videos Damian. I was parked kind of by myself that day and not next to the other two FDs so that's why you probably didn't see my car. Congrats on the great new car!

1. Does the car still have ABS, or is it bypassed. I noticed the front right lockup in the one vid.
2. I've been thinking of going digital on the camcorder thing so I can set up some lipstick cams as it appears you have. Any recommendations? Don't want to spend the house..........then there'd be none left for car parts.
3. On that one vid with the speedo insert; A. how did you do that? and B. are those actual speeds? Looked like 160 down the straight and then 140 in the sweeper........damned impressive if accurate, but I still don't get how you do that. Your dad must have been pretty amped as well.

yep the cym has ABS, it just failed that session and made for interesting footage :-)

no lipstick cams here, I hate them low res and bad color, I use 3ccd VERY TINY miniDV cams and mount them externally, i triangulate when i mount to kill all vibration (well, almost all) I rip the clips to DVD and current lipstick cams in teh affordable range are way to low res and color quality for me.
i used to use our canon gl1, but moved to the much smaller, but still 3ccd, panasonic:

14 years of graphics experience :-) hahahah just kidding, I created a speedo and needle in photoshop (seperate files) then composited them together on top of the raw footage in adobe after effects

no, its in inches per hour ...YES actual speeds LOL... BIR has what is arguable the highest speed straight/turn in the nation, to give you an idea the straight is used as a full 1/4 mile drag strip, adn the turn at the end is banked like nascar style, VERY high speeds there. just look at my speedo, its hard to see at internet resolution, but you can see the needle, and at full res its easier to see and that it what I animated the superimposed needle to match.

hahah yep, your exatly right, just over 160 at teh end, and i brake cuz im scared shitless, then 140 in the turn, the car could go 160 in the turn, but I would crap my pants if I tried right now, ill work my way up to it :-)
my dad loved it, took my entire family that day actualy (lil 30th bday celebration at the track for me so fam was there)...even got my granny buckled in, and i didnt hold back, she too went 160 and 140 through turn one!!!

Sounds like my experience at California Speedway. My top speed in the straight was about 145mph and I probably could have kept the gas floored all the way through the sweeping banked turn after the main straight... but yeah... I'm still learning and would like to have some more fun with my car before I meet a concrete wall. Do your car have a lower 5th gear? I imagine you'll need that to do 160 at the track. My car will go ~170mph EVENTUALLY but when I shift out of fourth into 5th at about 140mph 5th gear is so low that I barely accelerate. Not that I really ever should be needing to go over 140....
