Talked to the track rental folks at VIR and the skid pad may or may not be available. There's a bike group there who uses it but hopefully they'll be done by 3 or so and we can have it until 5:30 which would be perfect

I think 6 to 10 people would be a good #?

1.36 lap is up and I'll post the 1.35 in the next few days. I was actually driving harder on Sunday (36 lap) but the tires were/are smoked. About 10 heat cycles at this point. I drove A LOT on Sunday hehe.

I'll also post up a fun vid once I go through all the videos (tons) and see if something is cool.

I also posted up a vid for a long time track friend who was visiting with his girl friend and I gave her a ride and posted up that video on youtube for her to look at. She's like 4 foot 8 inches so she could barely see over the dash but I think she had fun. Pretty much chillin w/ the passenger so not really a crazy vid.

I finally have a halo seat installed that's comfy enough to leave in along with a nice roll bar. Didn't have time to have the complete cage done but that's coming over the winter with some other goodies

Here are the times from this weekend: http://www.mylaps.com/results/showevent.jsp?id=760625

I have 106 timed laps and I wasn't timed until Saturday afternoon.

Odometer had 283 when I took it off the trailer

Dude, when I try to watch this video, I get a notice saying "This video is not available in your country"... what kind of depraved shenanigans are going on in it?!

Hmmm could be the song but it works for me when I click on the link I posted up on the forum so it could also be your computer or something.

When I post up the 1.35 lap I'll leave music out. Most folks don't like my taste in music anyway

Were you able to actually view the one in question ?

Thanks man!

This video stuff is clearly not in my bag of tricks and sorry the proprietary thing is causing problems but I finally have the 35 lap up

Still haven't been through the vids but I'll try to do that later today and find some cool on track stuff with other cars. Not a lot of hardware at this event but I'm sure there will be at least a few entertaining moments, again LOTS of vid

Hi Fritz, very nice vid and great driving. I know that you instruct at DE events. Do you think you should show vids like that to students in the more modern cars to show how car control used to be done with driver inputs..hands and feet and not the electronic aids of today I also have a pretty fast track FD and am a somewhat competent driver but do feel i am driving a bi plane tech wise compared to the modern sports cars that you have to do something really, really stupid to loop or go off track.
Can't wait to get on track!!

Thanks for the compliment

The FD is such a great handling car that with just a few bolt ons it will match or exceed what most modern day cars can do with or without gadgetry so it's a pretty frikken advanced biplane

Last year I bought a 997 GT3 RS (always wanted to try one out) and it had all the traction control nannies and the 1st thing I'd do is turn them off but if I forgot which I often did I'd notice in the 1st corner because they really don't allow for much slip and they slow you down a bit so they may keep an inexperienced driver on the track but they will slow down an experienced driver. The biggest cheaters IMO are the 4 wheel drive cars with all the front to rear gadgetry it absolutely makes driving less challenging and I'm sure less enjoyable. I remember years ago switching cars with a fellow instructor as part of some instructor training course I was taking and he had an evo and the car was silly easy to drive. Appeared to be impossible to spin even with fairly slow reactions. I'm sure cars like the GTR etc.... are even easier BUT a serious problem can develop as the drivers confidence increases and they become accustomed to more and more speed because gadgetry can't add pavement and consequently they are more likely to hit something versus a spin or short drive through the grass in a car that allows the driver to progress in a more controlled way.

PS Get out there ASAP and post up some vid we need more FDs on track I'm chomping at the bit and I've already driven almost 600 miles this year. Next up is VIR F PCA (first settlers) and there will be at least 4 other FDs on track terrorizing the P cars

NASA Hyperfest 2012

WOW!!!!!

Crazy event to say the least. I'm always amazed to see how NASA is able to fit so much into one day but this event takes that to a whole new level; drifting, car roll overs, racing, HPDE and time trial. Track was hot from 8am to 8:30 pm.

With the FD down and out I was driving the Cayman I just picked up. It's a fun car but nothing can compare to the FD HEHE I was pushing quite (pretty old staggered 888s) a bit but I'm used to dealing with that and was able to get the car around the track fairly well. Was passed once the first day by a fast 911 on slicks otherwise I took the DE cup home no problem

SPR is still BUMPY as a **** going into 3 (hop hop hop) and 9 but the all the other parts of the track are pretty good.

I'm post up a vid asap.

Videos are UP

Lap times aren't too bad. 25 and 26s for the most part on old 888s so with good tires I'm think this Cayman could run a low 20 which is a pretty bad *** for it's power to weight. The rear grip is really good (can really toss it in), obviously not as good as the RS but much better than the FD.

Pushes badly and if I continue tracking it I'll back away from the staggered tire setup.

Thanks!

I just need the right side and hopefully I have one in storage but hang on to those 99s you have and I'll scoop those up when I see you at the track

Cool. I'm sure you did more for him than I did. Fixin to post up Mike Skeen in my car as soon as I can learn to add some home grown music to it. Cheers

Was Mike able to get a sub 2.10 lap? Can't wait to see the vid

Thanks man!

The Cayman is fun for sure and once I put on some better tires I think it will be just 4 or 5 seconds off the FDs pace which means it's going to be a pretty damn fast Cayman. Should surprise a lot of GT3s hehe

Cool! I'll be curious to know what Skeen ran. It would be fun to have him lay down a bogey lap for you in your own car. Curious if he had good set-up feedback too.
