Hey, does anyone have any recommends regarding HANS type devices?

Tough to stomach the $900 or so for the HANS, even though my wife says my head (attached to my neck) is easily worth a grand...........

Saw one by G-force the other day that looked similar...............just wondering if there's a better/cheaper mousetrap out there?

Reading about good ole Dale Earnhardt and the fact that a 45mph impact snapped his neck got me kinda thinking...................I could easily have an impact like that even just doing little ole track days...............

Thanks,

David

Step one: I made it to the right track event LOL

I still can't believe I did that

The Audi event on the Full course was a blast. The weather was good although very cold in the morning. I lost a window pin and then later forgot to the put the windows in so the next morning the entire car was covered in frost inside and out. During the first session there was a snow blizzard all around me in the interior of the car. Lots of good track action. I had some fun with an Audi race car and some footage of people spinning.

The lap times were ok but not great. I found some 2:11s but was hoping for a 2:10. Video of a 2:11 is UP.

It's amazing how strong this car is at only 9 or 10lbs of boost. IMO the t78 is the perfect track turbo for these cars. I could manage 150 at the brake point consistently on both straights. I'm guessing if I turned the boost up to 12 or 13lbs I could get into the 160s. Not ready to do that just yet

I'll upload the VIDs ASAP.

Damian,
I met some friends of yours who were driving Cobras that were very nice and they have an awesome track setup. I bet they have loads of fun together tracking those Cobras. The slicks were toast but I really appreciate the effort it took you to get them to me. They were 3 seconds slower than 2 used victos and 2 new ones. Should of been 3 seconds faster HE HE

If Morgen doesn't have knee surgery this week I might go to the chin event but will probably take my daily driver because the front pads are done. That's four events on the front pads for me and who knows how many events Brad had on them. Basically its very good brake setup.

I'll post some pics of the Killer Bee after a hard weekend and how the shape is slowly changing into the typical Fritz mobile. Brad will be none too happy I've raised it about 1 inch and took the front lip off after the 1st event. Less race car and more HPDE car. I hope to eventually add a seat and fuel cell.

Sorry to keep rambling on I'm still high from the speed injection and really had a good time. PEACE

Aw, Fritz... do what you want, it's your car. I don't get raising it, but whatever...

Oddly enough, after 13 years of tracking rotaries, I don't miss them at all. The only reason I came to this forum was a friend of mine reported seeing you at VIR last weekend.

Anyway, enjoy the beast, it is a solid track car. Turn the boost up a little (12psi) and you'll see 165 on the front straight with a perfect exit from Hog Pen. Just don't try to brake past the 2 marker into T1. <G>

wow, id like to hear more on that fritz, i may get a new turbo setup soon if i can t find parts for my apexi.... i figured the t78 (and similar sizes) were to laggy even for road racing?

yeah, Bruce in a red cobra R, probably Fast Freddy in his red cobra R, maybe jeremy in his american iron cobra race car? real fun track dawgs. some of these guys are high rollers, like massive trailers with multiple cars, et, et.

was this to keep it from bottoming out on the street ,..or?

Mike,
You got that right. I'm probably not the half the driver he is though so I won't even try to reach 178 especially in this car. BTW what's his name and what does the car look like? You know how I feel about GT3s and this car is no GT3.

I will say that most well driven GT3 track cars driven by your avg track Junkies run 2:05s down to 2:02s. My goal is to run a 2:10 at this boost level and then turn it up to 12lbs see what she can do there.

I never had more than one open lap at a time last weekend and for me to run hot laps I need about 3 or 4 so I can keep inching things up a bit.

Thanks for your motivation and VERY Merry x-mas to you,
Fritz

Brad,
Just ribbing you a little. I have no idea how you drove that thing so low and kept it in one piece with those big *** slicks. I was rubbing like crazy and also couldn't load the thing with out a temple of blocks leading up to the trailer.

I'm glad your having fun with the truck and got sick of rotaries just in time for me to scoop this thing up

Man I'm braking at the 51/2 marker going 150 or so. So I'll be braking at the apex going 165 HE HE.

Thanks again,
Fritz
PS I forgot your friends name but it was nice meeting him.

Lag is no problem at all. Watch the videos. If your above 4k the car pulls hard and I would say maybe twice at both Summit and VIR the rpms might dip to 3800 at the lowest points and those are both technical tracks. You can probably make 400 rwhp at only 14 or 15 psi. I'm sure at boost levels above 11 or 12 psi the boost could get laggy but at even twelve PSI it would probably equal the power from the rx6 at 14 or 15. This means equal power with less wear and tear and cheaper to boot.

They were definitely high rollers. I'm surprised they didn't have 3 gt3s riding in that rig.

I have some video of your friends red cobra but couldn't find any of the other guys. It's in the video called Playing With the Audi Racer. I'll upload that when I get a chance.

I took Morgen to the airport this morning so know I'm immersing myself in the track vids while taking care of Erin. The best time I recorded was about a 2.11.4 which is what I already uploaded.

I'll also upload a couple of cars spinning in 17. One was a white eclipse that was really modded and the other was a blue M5.

My favorite videos have been of me and a yellow Audi race car following each other around. First he lets me by then I let him by and then we have a black flag from a car that dropped all it's transmission fluid in 10 and then catches on fire. He was also my student. He was an advanced driver with a VR4 that had like 500 rwhp. He was killing everyone on the straights. Notice how I struggle going through that turn on the lap following the pass. He had some Neo in there and it was slippery. I'll upload that one next.

Finally during the last session me and the yellow audi have some more fun but he goes 4 wheels off gets black flagged and has to pit. Both titled Audi VIR 12-04 Playing with the Audi Race Car 1 and 2.

Enjoy and let me know what you think. That Audi driver was a wild man and his car had some serious *****. I think I was having more fun watching than I was driving

I uploaded the best recorded lap last night. It's titled Audi VIR 12-04.......

I'll have another one up within the hour.

They should all be right at the top of the list because they begin with A for Audi.

Time to give Erin a bath. Oh the joys of fatherhood JK.........We have a blast splish splashing around

All the interesting videos from last weekend are up.

Damian,
My take on the used slicks is they're are great for a weekend or two if you get a good set but beyond that they suck. I'm going to just stick with used Hoosiers or new Victos. Also my favorite setup for the avg modded FD (300 to 375 rwhp) is SSR comps 17 x 9.5 with 275 40 17s. The break away is a little slower and the tires tend to last longer.

Went to the Chin Motorsports event at VIR last weekend so some more vids will be added soon.

Nothing spectacular but had some fun playing with a nice Ferrari and paddocked next to some buddies who were driving their fds as well.

My victos died and I put on the Dunlop SP track/street r compound tires and they did fine. I highly recommend these to anyone who needs a tire they can use on the street or drive to the track with and still get decent grip. IMO they are much better than the Kuhmo ecsta tires.

I turned the boost up to 11lbs when I switched tires and that was just enough to play with the Ferrari

Hey Fritz:

Now I feel crappy. That was the Chin event I planned on attending way back when until my buddy couldn't make it.............since we were taking his RV/Trailer up that kinda junked it............

How'd you like the Chin event? Great having all that track time isn't it? 5-7 hours versus around 2 with most other groups....................that's why I run with them............

Still getting things sorted on the Radical.............and will drive to Atlanta to pick it up this Wednesday or so since I'm runnin with Chin this coming weekend at Sebring.................

Hopefully Wei Shen got a chance to get out on the track .............probably in his Formula Mazda or in his red NSX...........he drives pretty good.................

Sorry to have missed it but will look for the vids............

Just noticed you instructed...............hopefully no one too scary...........then again who better knows the track then you to keep them out of trouble...........

David

Yeah I remember you telling me about it in the spring or summer. Sorry you couldn't make it you would of really had some fun. The fds could of competed with the NSXs. There were probably 4 or 5 NSXs there.

I instructed a nice but very green student in an NSX on Sunday who let me drive his car for 3 or 4 laps. I'd say a stock FD is faster but it was a really well behaved car. He had a 91 model that was really nice and clean with 97 or 99 polished wheels.

Regarding the structure; it's great for track time but terrible for track quality time. Having 1st time students on the track with instuctors and advanced students is something I had some trouble getting used to but hey I love track time and fortunately there weren't too many green students. The passing was limited to just the straights which also caused lots of trains. Hopefully next year they will open up the passing a bit.

I had fun with a couple of nice Ferraris and a GT3 cup car. If I had an open lap I was running a 2.11 or 2.12 which I'm happy with considering the tires and cold track. With the boost turned up to 11lbs on Sunday I could reach 150 pretty easy on both straights.

I'll upload a vid of me and a Ferrari. Man those cars sound awesome.

Crispy,
If your out there notice the gloves Full face helmet and suit will follow.
