Shawn,
Had a ruff time of it because of car troubles. 1st he forgot his lug lock so he was worried about the tech inspection. They allow us to go out without a tech inspection because its a track orientation sessions with standing yellow flags. While out on the track one of the corner workers notice he has an oil leak. It was raining or otherwise they never would of noticed but as we all know oil is really colorful in water. So we come in and they make us sit for a few minutes and of course a small pool of oil develops under the car. We decide there is no way to fix it because it's the front cover so Shawn has to sit it out. To add insult to injury an FD goes off during the session and blames it on Shawn. Apparently one of the drops caused him to get loose LOL

I felt really bad for him because he's been preparing that car for like two years. He did drive the KB on track though. He was flying JK it was during the touring laps LOL.

The good news is Chin gave him a refund. Big thumb for Chin

Video from Chin is up and running

Morgen is having knee surgery Jan 26th so it will be a while before I get back on the track

Please keep her in your prayers. The power of positive thinking is bigger than we know

Have a Merry X-mas and Happy new year. Hopefully Santa will give us lots of goodies for our cars

There's nothing like a track event to help you find your car's weaknesses.

Big thumbs up to Chin for refunding his money.

Nice viddys Fritz. Thanks for putting these up.

Question- did you slow to let the Ferrari and Audi by or did they catch you? Seems like the former given how easily you caught back up to them once they were given the point.

Sent you a PM with another Q too.

Thanks,

Gene

Gene,
No problems passing or following either car. My favorite thing to do on the track is find someone who is at my speed and drive with them a bit. You can learn a lot and it's also fun

Glad your enjoying the vids,
Fritz

WOW that was fuggin excellent. You sir are a true professional. U2 should hire your *** to do their next music vid. That's way better than anything I've seen on MTV LOL

I changed the placement so I could see the speedo at track out. It's good for that but it sucks that half the screen is a shot of the reflection in the rear view mirror. The sound might be better because it's further back but I'm so slack I keep forgetting to put tape and or foam over the mic. Basically I just want to catch my mistakes and see the times.

well , i dunno about all that (hehehe).... gimme a month to work on a track vid, then ill blow some doors off ;-) ....on the U2 song, as soon as i herd it i knew i could do a quick cool vid to it. It had a great rythm that match the feel of the track footage i had of that event, with just enough breaks int eh music to make for good video transitions.

i have to make it to VIR next year witha ll the cam goodies so we make make a split screen dual of the yellow monsters!!!! :-)

Crap...........my reply never posted.............

Here we do again.............

Damian..............awesome vids............

Can you give me some recommendations on equipment that won't break the bank..........

Right now I'm just doing the digicam / I/O port single mount like pretty much everyone.............but I would LOVE to do the remote camera thing as well..........also can you simply hook those into a normal digicam? Or do you need a separate "special" recording unit for those...........

Thanks.

David

1st track event of the year and I'm already breaking stuff. After a few laps in the first session today 3rd gear just exploded. I was at VIR and accelerating out of turn one and at about 6k rpms the trans let go. I'll post the vid later.

Thanks to Patfat I was able to get my daily driver sorted and ready for action so I'll still be able to play tomorrow. Thanks again Pat

Flyin Flynn is up to his usual tricks in 2005

The vid of the trans letting go is up. After watching it I noticed that it gets just a bit loader for a couple of seconds before it completely goes.

After talking with Bret at RP he said that sometimes the gears on the input shaft just strip. The only gear that worked at all was 4th which is how I was able to drive her back into the pits.

I went back on Sunday with the daily driver and still had lot's of fun but it also had some problems. I put a 97 ECU in it that came with an engine I recently purchased and my passenger Asjraf discovered the fuel cut would accur right at 180 kph. At first I wasn't sure if it was a boost problem or fuel pump or what. Needless to say I was going a wee bit slow down the straights HE HE. I also was using HP or HP plus pads and they eventually gave way right at the end of the last session. I was metal on metal for the last lap or TWO

I'm going back to VIR full this Friday with NASA for the open lapping practice session. I'll have a normal ECU and I've also switched the exhaust back to the borla dual to lower the boost creep. Which was yet another problem I had last weekend. I had to keep modulating the gas pedal to avoid over boost.

Well I'm still breaking **** but it was nice to go over 110

The front rotors cracked in half after 2 30 minute sessions but I still had some fun. With boost starting at 7 and creeping to 10 with 255 35 18 yoko es100s I was running 2:19s and 20s (going about 135 on the straight) on the full course. It was pretty cold so I could slide it around tons without the tires getting too hot.

Vid is up and titled; NASA 2.05 open lapping VIR full

See pics of cracked rotor

Cross drilled rotors with the holes drilled in straight lines are bad news. Basically drilled rotors suck for extended/lapping track use period.

How did it feel through the pedal when the rotor cracked? Could you feel it pulsing or catching?

FDs have really good pedal feel IMO so no worries not noticing

This is like driving with a jack hammer under your foot HE HE. I noticed some serious pedal vibration about 15 minutes into the 2nd session and then I tried being much nicer/smoother with the pedal and it helped a little. The crack was just a straight line not all the way through the rotor and into the hat when I first came in. After about 5 minutes of cooling it cracked in half and seperated completely. This is also a stock size rotor so with a nice fat big rotor the warning should be pretty good. There was one other crack that bled to outside of this rotor and two on the passenger side rotor but neither seperated completely. Basically it was cold about 45 degrees and I was using some old PFC 83 pads that I got from PFS that Peter had laying around for about a decade

If you have a crack longer than the width of your finger you will notice so again no worries.

After the brake trouble I was going into turns 1 and 14 pretty hot and having a blast trying to hold on

Damn, that's a scary picture. Well, it's good to know (in advance) what it will feel like if one cracks. I'm glad that it didn't shatter on the track!
