No...but Ian & Adrian became great friends of ours. I bought Ians black swift gti. Steve is also a good friend. I remember that bad *** Lotus 7 Ian had!

Sad to have seen Select Sales get taken to the dumps tho.

Dyno Header

So I've been doing a lot of work trying to get the motor ready for the engine dyno. Here you can see how I adapted the bell housing to the dyno cart.

I realized I had a BIG problem

DOOOOOH!!

So I went to see Carlos from CLR to borrow his dyno header but it turns out his header had flanges that fit the Mazda Motorsports PP housings. So what do I do?

I remembered I had a few ubends and flanges laying around and I was able to throw together a quick dyno header.

After a few hours this is what she looks like, not my best work but it will do.

Now I just have to wait for my place in line at the dyno shop, should be a couple of weeks. My goal at the dyno is not to come home with a number, it's strictly for break in purposes. Of course I'll be tuning every damn cell on the map.

Why not just hook up a starter, radiator and fuel and break the engine in the mean time on your little stand while you wait for the dyno? Building a home made test stand is fun as a ****.

a couple of reasons: the cart won't accept a starter without major hacking. If I did this it would only idle and rev which doesn't really break in the motor, you really need to put a load on the motor to break it in.

Here is the adapter I had to machine to attach the engine to the brake on the dyno, this was more work than the headers.

Definately going to need ear defenders at the dyno with the half an expansion chamber style exhaust.

Looks awesome - Maybe next year we will take the car on the Power Tour. If not the RX7 then the Syclone.

she has a heart beat!

Well boys and girls the time has come. After weeks of preperation (header, dyno adaptor, wiring yada yada yada) she finally came to life. It wasn't easy, you'll never really know what it takes to dyno and engine until you do it, the preperation that is involved is amazing. I'd like to thank my friends for all of their help, specifically Laz, Mandi, Jorge and Nory.

Once we entered all of the pertinant info into the AEM she fired almost immediately.

Here's a small taste

here she is waiting to be started

Guys, thanks for the kind words!

Below is a pic of the header in its full glory, we spent quite a few hours on the dyno breaking this thing in. I need to thank my friends for all their help Laz, Mandi, Jorge, Nory and Eddie.

This whole thing is amazing. Really makes me want to get off my butt and get to welding!

Also, I love that Big Al stands out on the glowing headers
Great Job, can't wait to see it in action!

Awesome someone finally put leds in their exhaust. LOL! Seriously though, man I wish I could break in and tune my own engine in this fashion.

BigAl,
You probably already have one but the picture really shows the need for a heat shield protecting the intake pipes!
Great Job Al!

You are correct Barry, I do have one, except it's made for the header that is used in the car. Remember this is the dyno header which is completely different.

Below is a pic of the shield. I just couldn't justify the cost of the material for just the dyno header.
