those headlights look amazing! Who makes them? Have you tried them out at a night race yet? Curious to hear your impressions!

COuld i make a slight suggestion on aero? It really looks like you have covered all aero possibilities except one. USe either sliding side skirts(like the F1 sideskirt era) or at least rubber ones as close to the ground as possible. The issue is that the air coming from the front of the car naturally goes into bottom of the car from the side. Closing the sides entirely should make a difference. The exhaust does present an issue. Either way AWESOME build.

thanks, I appreciate the suggestion. The reason I haven't done it is because the car is so low, I already have tons of trouble transporting it and since I'm a one man show that would be just one more thing to do at the track. One of these days I'll make some quick release versions. The exhaust is not a problem since it's completely enclosed with the under tray.

Whats up Al....what you could also do is a Lotus type movable skirt made of hard wood or plastic. Hitting the ground and moving up n down with roll, bumps, etc...and if you DO THAT, might as well and make a v shape flat bottom to speed up the air at the middle of the car.

ehh forget all that....get out to FARA more often

Heya Al,

May want to hold off on the side skirts. Watch this video. In the end when he is interviewing the designer of the 962, they found that the side skirts hurt the downforce of the car in testing because it stopped air from getting under the back of the car, where the rear diffuser was doing the work. Flat bottom, plus rear diffuser was great.. getting more air under the car even better.
I know of some formula teams that actually raise the car a half inch or inch to allow air under the car to increase downforce.

But as I am sure.. if you consider it.. you will do plenty of experimenting to see what works.

IT says it worked for formula 1 cars but not for their design. Side skirts made the ground effect worse on that 962. Why does it work on some cars and not others. Is it due to venturi effect on F1 cars being achieved in a different manner than a full bodied le mans style car? Now its getting complicated. Looks like i have a lot more researching to do.

BigAL - I have realized there are many variables involved that will determine a side skirt functional or not.
I think it will come down to you finding your AVG lap times and then installing the sideskirts and comparing results.

@Spin Racing- Maybe we should start a thread where we could post our research with evidence and our sources and maybe we can come to a conclusion of why it is not a consistent addition to every car.

Hmm. A venturi is a venturi. They all work the same way. There is a difference between GT and f1 cars though. F1 primarily use a front wing for downforce, while GT use a front diffuser. Having a diffuser up the front upsets the balance of the diffuser at the rear. My money is on the issue with side skirts being something along that line.
