Jerico Close ratio Gearbox Install
I had to cut up a couple pieces of 1/8 flat steel to make the bracket for the gearbox mount. here is Al welding them up
Then we had to gut almost the whole driver side tunnel to make room for the shifter
here is what it looked like installed

Car finished and on the track in Homestead
Here is the car all finished. We finished 1st in the race on Sunday. The car which was driven by Al ran awsome and felt like a whole new animal. Because of some issues with the mouts used with the cobra diff. we were un-able to compete for the second race.
As some of you may have seen, we have been hard at work on the second race car. u can check out the progress on the other post. so we have not benn able to asses the damage but im sure we will be just fine for the next even in september.

Stupid question, since you've got a full race transmission, why not use something like a 1:1 top gear and a much taller geared rear end? That way you're not spinning the driveshaft so fast, which helps with durability of the transmission output bearings, the driveshaft will be less likely to have vibration issues, it'll give a stonger R&P (although probably not an issue here), and slightly less drivetrain losses in top gear.

the gearbox is geared extremely close o that it never drops under 8000 rpm as long as i shift at 9600 rpm. the reae-end is set up for diff tracks depnding on what top speed i need. Here at out local track, when using the long configuration which involves using nascar turn 3-4 we use the 5.14 rear which gives a top speed of about 150mph. the short cofiguration we use the 6.14 which gives us 130mph. we make this choice based on the fastest straight on the track.

We ARE using a 1:1 fourth gear in the tranny. The gearing in just about optimum on this tranny

I guess those big tires and higher redline must be the big difference here, since I'm used to hearing about ITS FC's running a ~0.75:1 5th and a 5.12:1 diff with 225/45/15's and having that be too short for some courses.

Might want to spend some time reading this thread

Then search on posts made by some of the more experienced people on that thread for more info and perspectives.

Updates for FARA event in April including Racing Brake BBK
Its been a while since i have been on here but we have been at work on the race cars weather it be my race car or Big Als. Since the last race in December we pulled the motor and gave it to CLR to freshen it up and we have added an additional cooler for the Diff and also changed the way the front oil coolers are mounted. I also added a Racing Brake rear BBK to go along with all the fixins. here are some pics

i am using a mazda OEM FB throwout bearing. the imput shaft on the jerico happens to be really close to the mazda OEM size. just need to machine down about .040 if that even. we did have a couple issues with the starter pinion going out enough to catch the flywheel but we took care of that by making a spacer between the counter weight and the flywheel. bringing back the flywheel about an additional .160.

Havnt Posted on here in a while so i wanted to throw some pics of the race weekend in April 2009. As of now there have not been any changes except for the Maval Manual Rack we installed prior. I plan on installing the AtomIc Rex rack when the group buy is finised.

We race a local sanctioning body that's only 3 years old www.farausa.com we race mp3. their rules are pretty relaxed (but still pretty fair for everyone), they get a good number of cars at each event. we're hoping to start going to other tracks (sebring, daytona & wpir) soon, its pretty cool to race at homestead miami speedway. the group is definitely growing and each event gets better.

Hmmm, my sister lives in Homestead and I have seen people coming and going from track events all of the time. Maybe next time I visit, I will bring my car.
