nice...how much was that roller?

designfreak 02-06-06 10:39 AM

Im doing the same exact thing ( in miami too) with a 92, and all I can say is exepect to double your estimates of how long it will take if you plan on doing a real thorough job. I'm about a year and a half into my project, and still have a few more months to go.

good luck man!

Kim 02-06-06 05:10 PM

Post pics of the Mini too...

COOL

Few advice for you for building a Track only car

What class you plan to run. There are big different between A Race CAR and a Time Attack and Solo2 car. Plan ahead

how much money you plan to spend. A lot of time I seen a lot of people spend too much money on buying parts, but end out give up the project!!, For me most important thing of RACE CAR or Track car is to drive on Race Track.

I think FD, The only class legal in SCCA is. GT-2 or 3 but you cant run turbo in that class, plus there are very little change to against to real GT car(tube frame). there are one class call ITE, this is regional only class, but most of mod is allow in this calss. so in this class you see some very wacky race car or some very very fast one.
NASA is about the same thing only unlimit class for Turbo FD.

For Solo2 you can build a BP car ? I am not sure is FD is legal or not

Time attack car. since time attack is getting popular right now. so it would nice to see FD doing it.

As I said before. money money money. how much you want to spend. and Driving on Race track do wear you car a lot !!!!.

MY Road RACE FC. was plan to build as Turbo 13BT. but change to EFI 13BPP. and last to 58 IDA 13BPP.

FD's go into BP for Solo II. I used to run it when I removed one too many things out of the car.

Is that an original MINI behind your car?

That's so true. So many people spend way too much trying to build their most bad ass ego boosting track car so they can gloat about it; IMO anyway. The fun is in driving the thing. There's no sense in spending a pile of dough building a cool car and then not driving the piss out of it all the time. You don't have to spend wads of money to build a fast, reliable track car that is a blast to drive.

speedjunkie 02-10-06 04:46 PM

Good luck with that project. If those interior pieces are in good shape I'll be interested in most of them, DIBS, haha. My 94's interior SUCKS right now.

rob20rx7 02-10-06 05:00 PM

all the parts are or will be listed on e-bay

Pat McGroin 02-11-06 12:02 AM

Hey this is Jose, I called you a couple of days ago about the front calipers, still have them????

PM me.

obviousboy 02-16-06 05:31 PM

Man I cant wait to get another rx7 someday

Tips for projects...
Make lots and lots of lists
Start with very open lists then form them down into more specific lists
Schedule time to work on the car 10-6 on saturdays works for me and my buddy
Do not get overwhelmed :)
Start off small, like alot of guys are saying driving is more fun then turning a wrench. Figure out what you can get done with the time your allowing yourself and tear it down the following season.

Seriously the list technique is key..having a game plan before you do things is helpful and crossing things off helps you feel like your getting somewhere

I would like to know how heavy all that stuff you pulled out is. I am in the process of doing the same to my car. Seats included.

rob20rx7 02-21-06 11:17 AM

i have not weight the car yet but plan on doing it this weekend i will post the answer when i know

gnx7 02-22-06 01:09 AM

As others have suggested determine which class you plan to race in BEFORE you begin any planning/building.

I race in NASAProRacing TimeTrialUnlimited. My car is a street car that I take to the track about 1x month (hopefully that often this year). If NASA is in your area check them out. There are some 700hp+ 2500lb cars in my class and only a handful of seconds faster.

MM

Tilton pedals.. Haltech. IDA ITB. Dry sump tank... interesting !!. I guess this would be NA right? Bridge or PP ? GT OR ITE ?

oh BTW you would need two of that oil cooler to cool your project car. you oil cooler should aleast cool 1/3 of your engine heat. so in other way. it migh better if your oil cooler size is 1/3 of Radiator. This is how I did on my 13BPP. before I have oil temp too hight problem.

And last, you might not want to use OBX harness.... it might look the same. but is hard to tell this thing will hold under accident... so better buy one with FIA or SFI aprove...

Good luck on the project
J

Here is an update, The Car was finished today, Just as the fabricator Prommised (9 Days). This guy is out of hand with his work. His welds are even and artistic the way he bends the tubing to truly follow the inside contour of the car. I have seen a couple roll cages that have been done. This guys work surpasses them all. A little pricey, but you will get what you pay for. I dont know anyone else that was able to get all this work done in that amount of time. AND it still look this good

Install 8 point roll cage through fire wall onto front struts
Driver and passanger Nascar style side protection
Mount Pedal assemblies
Mount sterring Column
Remove Factory Driver side floor pan and make new base for race seat and brackets
Mount 4 Gallon Dry sump Oil Tank behind poassanger seat
Mount Tabs and brackets for 5 point safety Harness x2
Mount 22 Gallon Fuel cell
Cromoly Tubing through out
Weld mount tabs all around the sunroof and Install lexan with black border for sunroof

Total = 4100.00

Wow looks nice. :bigthumb:
I still cant believe its legal to mount the dry-sump tank inside the car.
We are not even allowed to have a mechanical oil pressure gauge in the cabin.
But then again FIA and SCCA arent the same

Keep the pics coming.

He will just need a metal bulkhead between the fuel cell and drivers compartment. Dry sump tank is just fine with steel lines.
Looking good.:)
