Power FC 1992 FD3S Type R (RHD)... What PFC to buy?
1992 FD3S Type R (RHD)... What PFC to buy?
Hey guys,
So after reading Dale Clarks FAQ and 10 old threads on the PFC... i want to get one! Expecially reading that one fellow was getting 25mpg on his half bridgeport.
In his FAQ he doesnt go in depth on RHD JDM FD's. But he does mentions that becuase they dont have 4 extra emissions wires you dont need to cut these wires when installing the PFC. So is this how it is plain and simple???
Can i just go out and buy a 93-95 PFC and expect not to cut any wires on my harness?
Also what PFC do i really have to buy? Here is my mod list. Will a base mapped PFC do me?

Thanks a lot guys.

APEXi Part # 414AZ004, check ebay

The default base maps are typically rich, so you should be pretty safe. However all cars are different and a little tuning can go a long way.

Excellent, thank you.
I still have a few random questions:
1. How does PFC compare to other standalones on the level of tuneability available? Can you literally tune anything you could ever want (providing you have a laptop adapter and the commander)?
2. Since the PFC is a full standalone, can it work with any setup?? What if i want to do a large street ported gt35r built next year?
3.What information is displayed on the commander or what information CAN be displayed? And how accurate are these readings.
4. Are the units fairly reliable? how long do they last?
5. Relatively user friendly?
6. Can you store more than one map on the PFC at one time? ie. Low boost and a high boost map or even a good MPG map and switch between them with the commander?
Thanks a lot guys.

You need to do some reading, this will answer most of your questions, download the PDF.

To gain full access to everything you need a datalogit http://www.fc-datalogit.co.nz/
Yes, it can handle pretty much anything you can throw at it, with exception to a 3 rotor, as far as upgrades.

To answer a few of your questions -
- The PFC can run pretty much any combination of mods you can throw at it. Just has to be a 13b. Large injectors, turbos, ports, whatever. To do any real serious programming with the PFC, you will need a Datalogit. The Commander is only for very VERY basic changes and monitoring.
- Read the PFC manual for more of what the Commander can do. It updates quickly, shows most every input into the ECU, and is as accurate as the inputs it receives.
- PFC's have proven to be VERY reliable. I don't think I've heard of a bad one yet. In theory, you could blow the injector transistors doing something goofy with the injectors, like running low impedance with no resistors.
- You can't have multiple maps in the PFC, just one. But, if you have a Datalogit, you can easily change maps very quickly. The Datalogit can upload a full map into the PFC in a second or two.
IMHO, the PFC is one of the best mods ever made for the FD, period. Plug and play, tons of headroom and tunability, rock solid, and fairly priced.

Ok, so after much research i want am back on the game with PFC.
I am looking at a few PFC's, thanks to banzai for posting the part number. But how do i connect the product number with the serial code for the product?
I am looking at 'PFC FD3S4 020- 3096', does this correspond with APEXi Part # 414AZ004? Is this the correct unit?
Also, should the unit come with any hardware or instructions? Or does this not matter?
Thanks guys,
